I'm a firm believer that history repeats itself in many things, including forex market. I think there is abundant and useful information we can get from studying past chart. I myself have to credit my success to studying past chart.

Now, I'm looking for a way to import old historical data for 1H time frame and lower into my MT4 terminal. Old as in back in the 1990s if possible, or even mid 1980's when retail forex trading starter. At the same time I have to be able to apply my current indicators to these oldies charts.

Pressing the "home" button can only get you so far. And I heard that if you download data from your terminal, it isn't accurate. But I don't even know how to do it.

Anyone has any idea how to do this? Thank you very much in advance.

Hello
You are believing that past data will support in current trading. because of your believe you are feeling that history rotates. but practically I feel that if you want to move forward then just it is enough 6 months data charts. that is available all of MT4 platforms . And one more things success come with knowledge that too present market price knowledge. how the price behaving in the market and when it is coming down and when it is going up, everything depending on current demand and supply not in history. if you see in 80's population and trade participants. it is very low and in that time very difficult to understand the market conditions. but present there are so much development came in Internet market. and now you can see the MT4 platform with high tech features. now trading activities are increased. so just focus present market charts it will give you full support to make good money in forex trading.

thank u

That's exactly the whole point my friend. Market changes and what's better way to study these changes than looking at the past data? Exactly what changed?

Pre and post internet is only one factor. Many traders say the past is not predictive of the future. That there is no point of studying the past. But I beg to differ, if you don't understand the past you can never understand the present and the future.

But even 6 months worth of 1H chart or lower is not accessible from my MT4 terminal.

Of course not. But the topic has been discussed so many times, its tedious.

I wonder what you would have found using search? or reading the threads from yesterday?

I've looked at under "similar threads", and I've made my own research (maybe not enough) but I couldn't find a simple way to download older candles onto the chart. Either the quality of data is bad, or complex Excel manipulation, or you have to pay a significant amount.

I was just wondering if there is a way to go past the "home" button limit of your terminal. I've maxed the historical bar to 2 billion, yet I could only go up to October 2012 on 1H chart.

Bumping this, I have near solid proof that history does repeat, I would just like to see the charts in MT4 to study them, I need as far back as 1970 if possible, check gold 1980 for some motivation

Use the forumsearch or google or any other searchengine, you'll find a lot of information about backtesting/historical mt4 data download, for example:

PM me with coding requests and I'll probably put you on my ignore list
