We exclusively reported just several weeks ago that as part of its rebranding as just 'IG', IG Group had spent several million dollars buying the IG.com domain name, which was previously a Brazilian search engine. IG's rebranding involves a lot more than just its website. A quick visit to IG.com shows that IG is repositioning as much-more-than-just-spreadbetting, IG's bread-and-butter product. IG has been resting on their laurels for way too long. Just the introduction of MT4 platform, which is nothing new to other competitors, is merely catching up to the competition in the market.

There are many areas which IG has lagged behind their competitors now: (1) non-competitive spread, (2) mandatory minimum trade size (for their CFDs), (3) worst off slippage in trade execution than their competitors, (4) bad bad bad customer service (often enough you have a angry customer service officer at the other side of the line waiting to breath down your neck instead of trying to listen to your issue first.) and (5) unreliable price feed (my trade are stopped out in one occasion and upon investigation, the actual market price when referencing the future contract prices on bloomberg data has never reached my stoploss in the first place. I complained and got a refund because the price discrepancies is so wide that there is no ground for them to disagree on a refund.)

Overall, IG is still a decent broker but the fact today is their competitors have surpassed them now on many fronts. Nonetheless, IG has shown signs that they want to catch up with the competition as they have been proactively conducting numerous customer survey and feedback. If only they listen to their customer more proactively (I understand it is difficult to listen when your customer service officer is always fuming with anger when servicing customer issue) and preemptively improve on their business rather than always reacting to the competition at their door.

Having said so much, I have not given up and IG still remains one of my preferred broker to trade with. Keep up the good work improving, IG. You can do it.

Hi entheos,

IG is a CFD broker which provides a very resonabel leverage. I don't trade CFD on shares anymore as I find CFD forex trading much cheaper and more profitable.

Two years ago when I did some share trading with them I had a 5% leverage on shares but I know for forex or min forex is only 1 to 2 pips for most popular pairs such as Eur/USD, AUD/USD. You may want to check them out. I still got my account active and trade on daily basis there.

I have been with IG since 2007 and I enjoy the service and reliability.

I think in compare to other brokers, they have tried to keep their clients happy so far.
