I found this market sessions indicator. just puts lines on your chart for market open. aussie.asian london usa markets. there is an offset to make sure it lines up with the open. use the 1 hr chart for this. check it against the real market open on forex factory. the vertical line is the open and the horizontal line of the same color is the market hours up to the close of that market. all color coded. it may help. also nice to see as you go back through the market history. you can pinpoint the most and least volatile times.

Thanks henn. I'll have to try that out in the morning. I used to draw lines on my charts to separate the time sessions sometimes and it did help me to get a better picture of what was going on when I looked back over the last few days' action. Trouble was, I'd get bored of putting them on all my charts and start forgetting, so that indicator you posted could be very handy. Cheers!

{quote} I don't reckon Sun Tzu is all he was cracked out to be or else the Chinese would not have abandoned agrarian collectivisation in preference for infinite growth on a finite planet. The greatest philisopher in human systems was Karl Marx who succinctly detailed the course capitalism will take before it goes through its own historical transition, as do all social cultures. I therefore have no illusions about capital and this notion about honourable capitalists is an urban myth. This social economy acculturates us to be red in tooth and claw...

I like that frz - where does that quote come from?

I'm tentatively short on cable but I'm not going to be building any big positions with the figures due out later and I'd rather see a bit of a bounce first. Still, I don't want to get predictive so I've entered a scout and we'll see what happens. I started full time on Monday, made 1%, and yesterday I had to go out to sort out some technical issues.

Good trading to everybody on the thread (well almost everybody). Fti, I hope you are well.

Cheers

EDIT: Ignore all that rubbish about what I'm trading. I was just trying to be conversational and stay on topic.

Nearly lost the plot today, started flipping like a fool. Had to be very disciplined and square out after losing 3% (that being roughly 3 days profit historically speaking)

Not a great second day. I'm displeased with my bad reading of the market, inability to adjust to the flow and generally bad decisions, because I did get enough warning to be honest. On the other hand, I am pleased that I had the discipline to stop when I did. The first day (when I made 1%) I had stayed small while I was getting used to the larger account size. Today I tried to go bigger too quickly I think. I will scale my sizes back down and get a few profitable days (or weeks even) trading under my belt before I try to up my position size again.

I didn't really want to post this because it doesn't make me look very good. However, I'm quick enough to announce it when I make a profit so I thought I should.

Cheers

Hi,

If only all could post their embarassing "down" days like you did, respect! So that trading does not look like a fairy tale with only +%.

Best regards

{quote} Your advice is always welcome. Most of the programmers I worked with knew very little about hardware, including me. That's probably why we wrote such awful applications I'll probably just stick with the dual-core processor I have and upgrade the GPU so I can run multiple monitors - that's another area I can't make my mind up about. I was going to get 2 x 23-inch IPS panels (1920x1020) and use them with my desktop - for trading and charts. The 22-inch monitor (1680x1050) that I already have I was going to stick to one side and run from...

I don't know where you live but it has come down to power consumption! Since you machine is going to be always on, $$ will spin. Check that your new GPU supports the resolutions required (digital). Silent, no cooler, GPUs ususally overheat the whole system unless it is very well ventilated. Making the whole thing run silent is another matter (was a concern when I had it close to my bed). For stability choose a good brand for the video card, like Asus and choose nvidia chip, not amd. (Also Intel CPU is preferred vs AMD). Just for pure stability issues.

And yes, find the capital to buy a SSD for system drive. For 100$ you can find 128GB which should be fine.

As for not looking stupid, you can always work on programming stuff on 2 monitors or pretent to do other important work..

Thanks for the advice, appreciated. (I live in Thailand)

I have the side open with a fan blowing onto the motherboard at the moment due to the fact that I have no air-con downstairs since I moved house, so ventilation shouldn't be a big problem (dust is another matter but I can clean it out easily enough) An SSD drive sounds like a good idea, will take a look at them when I go to buy some cables tomorrow morning.

How is your trading and the rest of your life going?

Cheers

i just finished watch the video..
mutation and evolution of aircraft fighter. very inspiring.

once, i used to play game "empire earth" with "the battle of britain" as sub theme of the game.
then i just knew later that it was an epic battle in history.
the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) versus the Royal Air Force (RAF) of the United Kingdom.
"The failure of Nazi Germany to destroy Britain's air defence or to break British morale is considered its first major setback." -history note

hi Ukman..
since you have post your bad thingy.
i want post some of my scorpions

here,
i'm not sure i wrote this off to share my experiment.
but i have posted it anyway. hehe,

these are my experiment:

in my first attempt in demo ,
i learn one thing that so important and crucial.
i.e. there is time that i should take a loss and admit my mistake.

every mistake along with the consequence, depends on the magnitude.
there's mistake that you can cover,
and there's mistake that you can't cover.
there is time even if you put your head into battle,
it would simply cut off your head. no mercy.
but if you humbly admit your mistake, there is mercy.
another day, another battle.

this is my equity return graphic in first attempt,
1% of equity in initial skew and gained 140% Roi in the first week.
it was only sustain 3 weeks before it sunk to 50% of initial equity.

why? because i simply won't take a loss, i won't admit my failure.
my mindset was poisoned by my ego -- "too big to fail"
at the same time, i just realized that it was "eating more than you can chew"

my mindset is weak, my MM was terrible. tragedy.

this my second demo,

i'm realizing that i cannot trade like a bank where i got plenty capital delusion.
so, i've planned to take loss based on my threshold pain (10% of equity)
if the sum of all my negative positions accumulated and reach 10% of my equity,
all of my positions would automatically closed.

but, i got flat graphic of return. and frustation. lol.
is akin like put stop loss in my trading.
sometimes i get it right, sometimes i get stopped.
(sure, there are great traders that could use stop loss wisely and profitably. which i couldn't use it.)

then i start my 3rd demo, which is started today.

i was think a lot about my 2nd account, why it was still wrong?
then i got a clue about my scorpion, my biggest enemy.
so, i limiting my daily expectation.
if i trade agressively, i could get xxx pips a day with flat attack modus (1:1:1)
but it would ended with the big hole and uncontrol exposure in the end of weeks as the result, because my scorpion grows bigger
and the unmeasurable expectation factor because greed has no limit.

so, i set down my daily expectation to xxx pips a day with risk basis 2% per trade and threshold pain 10% (so, i could deploy some rescue for bleeding position)

if my target was achieved. i scale down my risk factor into 0.2% per single trade
and trade until my trading hours finish. (i trade from asia and stop before london closed).
if it is not achieved in the end of the day or i have losing trade
then i just simply closed all position and trade another battle in another day.
with belief, if i'm good enough market would repaid back my pips in another day.

i got 2% profit today..
but it hasn't tested in every terrain.
i fear if it would futile.. since my target is 2% a day and my threshold pain is 10% (my 5 days of work!)

any advice is welcomed.
