I believe that many of the people who lose money in forex are small accounts,
with new traders who are "gambling." I don't know a huge amount about trading.
I have only been at it less than a year. But, I sure hope I make it.
I am not taking forex trading as full time work so I am not worried about how many % is losing in this business. I just know my results. I am in net profits since I started trading. It is small money but it is profit.
actually 95% is too low, the stat is closer to 99.6%

an academic researchers findings show that only 0.4% of retailers are able to make 4 or more back-to-back profitable quarters

you will be extremely hard pushed to find anyone at FF who has 4 back to back profitable quarters and using decent lot size, whilst employing sensible risk parameters

of course many will tell you they can, but talk is cheap


..................but that doesnt mean one shouldn't try, for it can be done; nevertheless it's prudent to understand the odds

wow! I must be in the 0.4% camp.I honestly can't see how I can have an unprofitable quarter .....maybe a month or two as per my system stats.I believe most traders don't have a real edge.

unless I do something extremely stupid ....you never know!

but typing at a trading forum doesnt constitute evidence; as such there is no rational reason for me to believe you, nor for you to believe me, should i post such a claim......surely you would agree

Having spent most of last year being unprofitable I have so far had one quarter profitable this year.
The current quarter is continuing in that vein - leaving me plenty of time to screw it up.

I was posting evidence of my gradually declining account, and that helped me to be honest with myself about my under-achievements.
When I get to e.o.June, and if I continue profitably, I will feel inclined to up-size my account and traded contracts, and try to retain my mental state.
Until then I continue with my beer-fund until I make it work.

That is almost what struck me while reading this forum. Is there a solid correlation between forum-activity and successfull trading?

Welcome to the forum.

There is definitely cause for suspicion, but it depends upon the nature of the postings. Those who try to help you fix yourself are probably genuine. Those who tell you what you should be trading are probably self-aggrandising. Those who spend too much time posting are not trading.

Even Merlin admitted that time on the forum was disturbing his trading.

Once your fully committed to something you can achieve miracles. It's better odds than the lottery. it's pretty damn good odds when you consider that there's 5 winners in every 100 players which equates to you only having to actually beat 19 other people and the remaining 4 competitors join you in the next round (battle) but with the advantage of already experiencing the previous game....... All we need to do is not give up and we will win through default.
I personally think that you can only do it if you have some kind of mentor to guide you at the beginning.

Insiders have at least three persistent 100% advantages, 1. collusion, they work together, we don't. 2. they can hide right on this site cleverly disguised behind a pseudoname. 3. They front us with formidable computers.

I own two businesses and trade. That's essentially three businesses.

And guess what?

I price theft into every model.

Of course there's nonsense going on behind closed doors. Of course every now and again S*ros and some friends move the market 500 pips just to clear the market.

But a nimble player/business person should be agile enough to manage occasional collusion.

Its true that most of the traders are losers but what is the main reason for losing. In any other profession we get good training so that we can perform well but in forex trading, as there is not much restriction in opening and funding account, many traders just keep on trying their luck.

Sorry, but that statement is wrong. In any other profession even the worst performing guy is making money, cause you will receive a paycheck at the end of the day. But in forex you can make and lose money. That's the difference, not that you get good training,...

I think in any other profession we have an equal amount of outperformers (as in forex) who are just 99% better than their peers. Just that in those professions you don't see the difference that much, since nobody is losing money and everybody get s a paycheck at the end.
