Euro retreats again as sell interest caps rally

We’ve seen EURUSD come back from session highs of 1.3033 as the barrier option interest at 1.3050 casts its shadow over an unconvinced market.
Currently back down to 1.3015 with EURGBP also sub-0.8500 again after posting highs of 0.8515.
Jury still well and truly out in this session.

EUR shorts extended its momentum – Rabobank

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The euro is consolidating its momentum above the key handle at 1.3000 on Monday, extending last week’s upside after the ECB gathering and the tepid result from the US Payrolls.

According to the last CFTC COT report, Strategist Jane Foley at Rabobank commented that short positions continued to build up, adding “Even though many of the tensions stemming from the Cypriot bail-out have eased, speculation of a potential ECB rate cut could have weighed on the EUR last week”.

Regarding the greenback, Foley argued, “USD longs held largely steady having reached their strongest levels since the financial crisis began the previous week”.

EUR/USD pulls back from 1.3040

FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The advance of the euro against the dollar has been once again capped by the 1.3040 area on Monday despite the generally weaker USD and the positive market mood.

EUR/USD retested Friday's post-NFP highs around 1.3035/40 but failed to rise past that level and pulled back. At time of writing, EUR/USD is trading around 1.3010 where it is virtually unchanged on the day, having bounced from a daily low of 1.2968 scored during the Asian session.

On the upside, if the EUR/USD manages to extend gains above 1.3040, next resistances could be found at 1.3050 (March 25 high) and 1.3080 ahead of 1.3100 psychological level. On the downside, immediate supports are seen at 1.3000, 1.2970 and 1.2915 (20-day SMA).

EUR/USD intraday: the upside prevails. Pivot: 1.2965

Our preference: Long positions above 1.2965 with targets @ 1.304 & 1.307 in extension.

Alternative scenario: Below 1.2965 look for further downside with 1.2935 & 1.288 as targets.

Comment: the pair has struck against its previous high and is facing a pull back on its new support (former bullish flag upper boundary) ahead of further advance.

Good day to all. Thanks EuroTraderJD for the news update.
I'm hoping the EUR will go up so I can close an outstanding long position at .302. It had gone up but I was away from the comp so I missed it. Whats the possible direction of the pair now. I see it's headed towards .300?

I believe our next abc pattern will come down deeper for the handle just because consolidation to the left of the Head Neck Shoulder pattern and then one more up to around .3150-75 to finish off shoulder. Should take us a little while to get there.
