so I guess the russians pay most of the loot...since they have most of the high end deposits there..looks like the Krauts want to bust a tax haven

this one side of the story.
ok russians burnt by EU & russia

but
now the confidence of indivuduals to the banks will decrease
they will start to take some money out of banks.
means they will put some cash or gold in their house instead of banks

NOT GOOD

this will also effect gold prices

normally russian goverment does not give a hell of those russians money haircut. due they run away from tax. paying tax to russian goverment.
but what russia wants to do is by givng money, getting militery base @ cyprus. tihs what they intersted in. other issues are detail for them"

Yes, I agree w/ steve that the banks across Europe (or anywhere Euros are used) will probably start to notice people becoming distrustful of the banking realm and recall their cash instruments/gold/silver and place them into another 'safer' location (pulling deposits out of the banks - talk about a breach of trust - can't blame them for a second). Fear is one of the greatest motivators.

What will this mean in the short/medium term for the E/U? That remains to be seen.

Edit/update: good point - perhaps the patrons that are sub-100k Euros will not feel threatened and keep the status quo. Which is what is needed for any bank to continue on.
