G20 summit wiped away the black clouds over the Japanese JPY over the bank week-end. The G20 finance chiefs and central bankers pledged to not 'target the exchange rates for competitive purposes', yet did not single out Japan in discussions on communiqué. G20 deputies seem willing to tolerate further Japanese easing, as long as the policy makers do not explicitly advocate JPY sliding.

Growth rates of the major Eurozone economies were down, pointing to the word that the markets hate to hear - recession. In the US, Consumer Sentiment and the Empire Manufacturing Index both beat the estimate. The G-20 concluded its meeting in Moscow, and issued a mild statement about currency exchange rates. Daily Statement: Forex Markets Mixed, Focus on German ZEW

The FX markets are rather mixed for the moment. There was no follow through selling in the Japanese yen since earlier selloff this bank week and major yen crosses are bounded in consolidation range. Euro is also sitting in tight range around 1.33 against dollar for the moment while Sterling is generally soft. USD/CAD jumped to seven month high of weakness in the Canadian dollar. New Zealand dollar was mildly softer in Asian session but Aussie recovered mildly in tight range. We maintain our view as stated in the bank weekly report to long USD/CAD. While we're still bullish in USD/JPY, the consolidation from 94.45 might extend for a day or two and we'd prefer to go long on a dip to below 93. As for today, German ZEW will be released in European session and is expected to show improvement in economic sentiments.
