Is it possible to trade randomly (buy/sell) and be profitable?

Could an EA just doing random entries and money management be profitable??

Nice to see that the long & short trades are more or less 50/50 [as the entries are random].

Avg profit per trade is not great and the balance is draining ever so slowly. Although equity has stayed in positive territory through out, it would be nice to see the balance creeping up. What will be key is letting the winners run .. and run for a long!

looking at the trade report GBPJPY has been a bit costly .. and looking at the daily chart it's clear that it has been range bound more than EJ & UJ ... need to find a solution to avoid over trading range bound pairs.

Thanks .. checking it out.

Made some slight adjustments to money management based on the win/loss ratio. Should the win/loss percentage stay where it is, the balance should start going up.

Random trading is not good kind of thing,in my opinion. You can be successful once or twice, bt thn you'll lose all ur profit. Trading isn't a random thing, u'll should work hard, 2 get success.

I am not so sure Jolene, from the books that I have read, some trading and some mentality related book, the answers I have seen is that you do not have to work hard to be successful.

Personally I will be convinced either way if the account is blown or the system is in profit after 1000 trades.

I personally believe that long term price action (trend) is not random, however a lot of intra-day moves are random. Random in the sense that you do not know what caused the move. Sure EJ is in an up trend (I think) at the moment, but you/I cannot predict the direction of every hour candle and this for me is where the randomness comes in.

Anyway ... I must letting things run, lets see where it will end up!

Added a filter to check if the pair is possible ranging ... GJ & UJ have been identified, so no trades until there's some sort of breakout.
Looking at the Trade Report the EA has over traded the pair so hopefully the filter is a step in the right direction.

What filter do you use? Ranging market is the big problem isn't it!

Without giving away too much it's pure price action. jut look at the OHLC of the last couple of days and if certain criteria is met the bot declares it as ranging. How effective it is .. we will see.

Why don't you define a certain % ... then close all trades when reached ?

Then start again ...

Forgot to mention that the % should be from the last % close in order to recover the losses (if any) closed between the % closures.
