I have this wonderful indicator which in the beginning used to print in the screen perfectly. Somehow stop printing. well, it does but sometimes it doesn't; I have to be redrawing the indicator to make print in the screen. What could be the problem?

Ignore the previous by Irenish. He is hijacking this thread for his own purposes.

There are known problems with using WindowScreenShot() in indicators. It was discussed at length in this thread, so I won't repeat it here. If you are using something other than WindowScreenShot() in your code, you can ignore this post as well.

I have read that thread before and it never established what the issue was. Was the code that produced the problem ever presented so the issue could be reproduced ? I have an Indicator which outputs Objects to the chart window and buffer values to a separate window and I have no issues using WindowScreenShot().
20 pips a day isn't too much to ask . . .

yes it does. it establishes that an indicator taking a screenshot on the first tick of a new bar gets caught all fucked-up in amongst a total redraw where everything has been blanked in anticipation of a fresh set of screen drawing... so don't windowscreenshot on the first tick of a bar, do it after.

or, if a candidate, just do it in an EA which obviously gets run before, or after, the screen blanking and redraw.

OK, so this Indicator will not work as it's taking a screenshot on the first tick of a new bar ? . . . yet it does seem to work.

and then you added a subwindow which broke. refer to my previous post.

but hey. fucked if i know. i never bothered to actually do any testing to confirm or deny that other threads conclusions. educated guessing was all the investment i was prepared to make, and it seems to still hold-up as the most-likely conclusions.

As I stated in the prevoius thread, there is no point in chasing the explanation when a solution is at hand.

I strumbled on the solution by chance. Several years ago in another thread someone was having problems with WindowScreenShot() which I couldn't replicate with my EA. His indicator would not work though on my machine. After converting to an EA, everything was fine.

Your previous post didn't mention the subwindow . . . but ever mind. If I add the same code to the ATR indicator I get chart grabs of both the ATR in the sub/other window and the MA in the chart window . . .

because i either a) never knew it was about a sub-window, or b) had forgotten since it was awhile ago.

it was all just blind debugging. like i said i never tested anything. i just took the information at hand and made reasonable conclusions based on my knowledge of things. that whole thread could be one big troll-fest for all i know as i never did any testing of windowscreenshot. it could all be lies afaik.

it's not often i bother to actually get someone's code and properly debug it, or make my own test code based on the information given. most of the time i can just pull debugging right out of my ass because i can often just see errors with my iBalls v2.0, or can guesstimate a likely error based on experience and context.

at this point in time i'm not sure if you are trying to tell me that i was right all along, wrong all along and have found the problem and solution, or you are saying something else entirely. i'm sleepy and not terribly switched-on right now. i'll keep an eye on things to see what conclusions you might come to about what's going on.

It's very difficult to come to a conclusion without seeing the code from the OP in this thread or from the OP in the other thread mentioned. From what I have tried, and posted, it works just fine.

agreed.

all i know is there seemed to be a special case where things would break, and that being when drawing a new bar where all buffers etc need to be completely refreshed. maybe you just aren't catching this anomaly so far due to pure luck, or maybe it's an issue that the meta guys have fixed.

but yeah, who knows wtf the OP's problem is. if the OP doesn't care to do more than post half-baked question then c'est la vie. with that i'm done here. the OP shows no interest so....
