Both Oanda and FXCM publish on their sites something that you could describe as the sentiment of their traders:

http://fxtrade.oanda.com/resources/trastats/ratios.png

http://www.dailyfx.com/export/sites/...i_6_1_06_1.gif

What suprises me, is that the values they show are completely different. Oanda shows traders who are mainly short at the EURUSD, while at FXCM they seems to be mainly long. Also the USDJPY show different values, one short, one long.

So I wonder, what is going on. Do I misunderstand both pictures?

The data they gathered is from their own server I believe. FXCM's trading tip also skew the data because I think many people are following it. It seems to work the way they suggest most of the time unless their is a strong force going against their suggestion.

Thanks for your answer. So that could mean that OANDA-traders mainly sell EURUSD and FXCM mainly buy them. Assuming that a lot of OANDA-traders follow the trend of they fellow-traders.

More position traders at Oanda who don't cut an interest positive but losing trade, carry traders, gridders, poolers, averagers. The winning longs are there too but they just trade the upside move and get out. Most of the danglers are probably quite small trades which is not reflected in the pic.

A chart which would show closed trades in relative to size would most probably be much different.

Oanda is an entertainment provider, apparently, much like the Las Vegas casinos.
