Nyah, I thought you used the same method and adapted its exact measures for the type of market the charts are in at the time.
Not knowing what the market will do in advance made that plan kinda useless, completely trashed the old plan and created a Range based plan via envelopes which covers all market conditions other than flat line ofcourse.

But it's paying off, back testing results are fantastic and live testing results are encouraging so far, 30% efficient and climbing, want to get to 50% ( ie I can take 50% of the back test trades live ).

Not realistically going to be in place to cover my lack of income end of November but maybe end of December, better late than never.
Nothing to it, but to do it!!! Stick to the plan FOOL!!!!

I have learned that just because other traders have their own methods that work for them, and these methods make sense, that doesn't mean it will work for you.

I've learned to combine everything I've learned into one repeatable approach that is 100% suited to my personality and perspective.

All tech is valid in it's own right, and the same goes for fundies.

For me, blending the tech that works for me with fundies using an orderflow perspective as a kind of bridge for the two, I've witnessed my account grow at an alarming rate.

I have learned not to put much faith in most posts on all forums. They may be telling the truth, but just as likely will be spinning a line to pump their own egos, confidence, whatever. Or they may just be ignorant or kidding around.

I have learned that the USD dominates everything in forex and most everything else in the global economy. Understand what is moving the USD and everything else will follow.

I have learned that understanding the USD is about fundamental news events in the US, how that news affects other countries and the flow-on effect on that currency and the rest of the world.

If the news is bullish USD, then risk is on and USD goes up. Whether the currency pair goes up/down is determined by the affect a bullish USD has on that partner country's economy.

If the news is bearish USD, then risk is off and USD goes down. Whether the currency pair goes up/down is determined by the affect a bearish USD has on that partner country's economy.

I have learned that despite what I have learnt, at times of low volatility (public holidays for instance) it is possible for the forex market to go crazy until the main players return to work. At those times it is best to have a deep stoploss and trade with the main trend.

I have learned that any stoploss that uses indicators is a trade killer. The market respects only daily trends or longer. Stops go outside the daily S/R levels.

I have learned that it is lunch time and I am off!

I remember when I made this thread it was in hope that it could be one thread where you actually get some honest insight from fellow traders as to their views on the market and where they're at, without the troll army decending on it.

I've been around these halls long enough to know nothing is ever what it seems, but at the same time to keep my mouth shut. All jokes aside I do love trading, and really enjoying listening to others interpretations of it.

To explain my reply….I suppose I'm trying to explain cognition ?,trying to abandon the gremlins we have when we sit in front of the monitors..
We need to try and place ourselves in a position where our emotions don’t control us but we control them ( In the Zone ? )…..Trying to put ourselves in a place where we can have maximum control over human reaction, not only with trading but with life…I believe most people Who hang around long enough can trade its just can there emotions handle the brutality of Market emotion….??

Hello Cindy,

How I trade today...

1. I protect my capital.
2. I have a plan, stick to it and build my confidence trading it.
3. From point 2, I identify my risks and calculate if I can afford them.
4. From point 3, I discovered that emotions, greed and fear were out.
5. I use low leverage.
6. According to my plan, I wait for the right setup to come.

According to all this, I learned these things:

Patience is the key word.
Know your risks and your plan.
Trade without emotions.

One has to adjust system to fit with personality.

Although i was trading profitably shortterm from day 1, it does not fit me so I abandoned.

I like trading say 10-15 times a year (excluding small recreational/stress relieve trades), with high % of win and good REALISED RR. I also trade longer timeframe where I move money once per 2 years or so.

I humbly submit that if I were trading profitably from Day 1, I would not abandon. That's just me.

May I ask.... did you feel unworthy of your profits (that really happens)?

May I ask.... did you feel unworthy of your profits (that really happens)?

Anyway, I guess I don't get it.
No no problems with unworthy. too stresfull. profitable but not enough. too much costs on relationships.
Then traded longer term technical and realised I have finite 'trading' energy. After a good streak I was becoming tired, that lead to sloppines and finally system started failing. Still made money at the end but decrease in profits to the point where I realised system stop working,
made me rething the whole process. Usually one trades largest size then.

and finally, i was having another go at shortterm. Looks like I was in brokers bad books and he denied me several entries via this or that excuse, into all tobe profitable trades. Probably big guy executing order. Sure i was nicely able to enter into all tobe losers

then decided this is no way for me.

I'm not a big believer in the "broker's out to get you" theory. If you f**k up then you do. No big deal. Live to get over it.

I would like to think that I can take full responsibility for the stupid shit that I can do.

I have learned to be aware of roll over rates.....
if you are speculating short term they usually have little impact or as much impact as your position size.

if you are trying to exploit a longer term macro environment best to understand correlation coefficients of currencies
beta viz a viz your bench mark (USDX or Eur/Usd) and take the standard deviation of currencies you are holding then figure out the monthly expected deviation in relation to your account size for a measure of risk.

why pay to speculate (neg roll over rate) when you can get paid interest on your leverage. When diversifying understand what the reason is behind diversifying (decreasing sigma) and why would you want to do that ....... to catch dividends at a lower risk in stocks....roll over rates in currencies... otherwise just decrease your position size as opposed to pay more commission.

in other words if you want to diversify and decrease your risk...YOU MUST have positive interest on your side.

beware of the roll over rate.
$5.00 a night on a 100,000 position is not so smart......but it is just the same mathematically as $.05 a night on a 1000 position.

to take advantage of the people before me, from valuations, to technical analysis, to mathematics and macro econ.

recently I have been studying time decay or theta

most models assume the price being random and normally distributed (although evidence shows that neither are correct) but tech analysis assumes predictability according to patterns in statistics.....evidence shows this is not correct either.

my current understanding of the market is entries and direction is best done using the technical approach and fundamental approach combined

while the money management is best using the academic random normally distributed, and probabilistic approach.
