Dear President Lammert, Honourable Committee Chairs, Honourable Members of the Bundestag, I am deeply honoured to be here today. As President of the European Central Bank (ECB), it is a privilege for me to come to the heart of German democracy to present our policy responses to the challenges facing the euro area economy. I know that central bank actions are often a topic of debate among politicians, the media and the general public in Germany.
