UK is closed too, if I am not wrong. And brokers are NEVER closed as long as one of the following countries/continent is opened. Europe, UK, Japan and the US.

There is a bank holiday in the US and the UK. That means that the major liquidity for forex will be significantly dampened. As a result, some brokers actually do close shop. For instance, HotSpotFX, an ECN, will be closed on Monday until 6 PM. My broker, I n t e r bank f x, however, will be open, but warned of limited activity and wide spreads.

My broker, FX Solutions, will be closed from 10AM - 7PM EST on Monday.

Oanda is always open, including weekends

I have closed and opened trades on weekends on weekend spreads (usually 10 pips) numerous times due to more news and information leaking out over the weekend. Paying a 5 pip close spread is nothing compared to what you'd lose waiting for the markets to open if things start looking bad.

One of the best trades I did was open short EUR-USD on weekend at 1.24 and trade it until low 1.19. 5 pips to open such a trade is nothing, I think it dropped 100 pips immediately the next day.
