Well I'm glad to see you had the good sense not to make an EA of the Merlion system. I doubt it can be coded even by the most capable coder in a reasonable period of time (say less than a few years). Trends lines are very subjective and no doubt your trend lines picking would not coincide with my trend lines or some other trader's trend lines. Trend lines are one thing that every experienced trader can agree to disagree on.

As far as your Merlion system itself goes, I will make some comments and suggestions on that thread.

why? i don't see anything in the first post on the link that would take more than a couple of days to put together and fully debug. i'm always curious when people infer something isn't able to be coded easily enough, apart from half-baked unstructured seat-of-the-pants plucking buys and sells out of thin air. in this case i noticed a reference to 45 degrees which is clearly a nonsense point of reference and would need proper clarifying (which might just invalidate the whole premise of the 'system' or 'method' or whatever this was meant to be (in fact, that should be a red-flag for people reading)).
Congratulations ScalaFX for coming out of the closet!

That definition is waaaaaaay too vague to be in any way codeable. I suspect that, if you put 10 profitable traders in different rooms, and asked each one of them to plot the "dominant trendline", you'd get 10 different lines plotted. Like CodeMeister says, it's completely subjective.

Of course I'm not talking years of coding effort. I am talking a week here a few days of tweaking there and a lot of testing and observing. After a while the code will look like some of the stuff posted on these forums and its time to rewrite from scratch.

And in this particular instance, there is a huge gap between what is described and a truly mechanical system. I stand by my estimate of several years... or longer.

yep yep. agree with you both on the point of subjective descriptions. i mentioned that part myself. i would take a guess that it would take longer to properly lock-down the ruleset from wishy-washy descriptions than to get the actual code done.

hmm, i was hoping it was going to be something i missed. something more interesting / challenging than the old 'subjective' aspect. what a let-down. sadface. there really is never anything new in this joint. groundhog day.

ah well... it was a short-lived diversion. thread back to normal, folks.

I like the Groundhog day reference. When I looked at the Merlion system, I thought where have I seen this before? His system is a Demark TD TL variation. Nothing truly new.

I coded one of those a few years back - doesn't work any better than say MA crossover; just more complicated to code and test.

I am still sticking with my previous offer - show me 3 months of profitability and rules that make sense and I'm ready and willing to code.
