Happy trading day everyone! Jaro, was good to meet you in person this past weekend, and am glad to see that you made it home safely. Hope we can do it again the next time you are here.

Slow market today but the week has seen some good trading. Some pullback occuring now ahead of FOMC. We'll see what Ben has to offer us in a few hours.

Whenever fti goes silent I become concerned. Hope he is well and just resting for battle. Take care everyone and good trading!

Thanks GEfx, we will try it next time... If you want to come North... you're welcome. We have almost (used to be) the biggest mall in the world. Your wife would love it.. You will need couple big trades for her to spend in that mall!

Got a surprise today to find that I got vouch from some of you. Thank you for making me feel like I belong. I never expected it as I really haven't contributed much to this thread...just too shy to do it...and know what, Chief - FTI is one of them! Thank you!!! Just to let you know am an old follower of this thread...though mostly in the background, while applying what has been discussed. Still got a lot of scorpions in me to conquer. I salute you all.

ok today i feel like socrates,can anyone enlighten me,what is buying low and selling high? how to define what is high and low,is it time frame specific? i hope i dont have to drink hemlock for asking this

Hi dr, I think it's more context specific ... like seasonalities, look at potato prices now and look again in January ... farm produce prices are "low" now. Or look at a group of stocks, like banks ... should we ever get out of the state of permanent crisis, you'd expect financial stocks and banks to rise, making current prices "low". Hard to interpret "low" and "high" in forex indeed.

The next question should then be 'how do we detect it in the market?'


anyone got an indy for that .

thats true,may be for the institutional guy buying anywhere in the range of 300 to 500 pips is cheap and low.but the question still remain what is selling high/dear/ and buying low/cheap?,what are the criteria? how to define them? any guideline?
ok, what is cheap and dear for big guys? what is the time horizons for these people? oh hmmm i think i will have to drink hemlock,becos i am asking one too many questions.
by the way,phil13, i have one very subjective indy,that is if u notice on any thread that ppl calling names or talking about central bank cheif and think these ppl are stupid then one is very near top or bottom of the market/i have one more indy,when u notice after a big move some big chap from govt or ecb or fed,talk to media about protecting dollar or euro and ppl start making fun of him then thats a very good indication that market inflection point is very near.

the thing is no body knows high/low it is constantly shifting and yes you are right the best indy is in your head.


the time frames, they are just a break down (closer look) of the same battles (battles within battles that lead to that same victory/defeat for bears/bulls).


At the end of the day cheap/dear high/low? Does it matter so long as you get on the right side of the move and capture a few pips, then you have bought low and sold high , the market does not have fixed values so all that matters is recognising the current direction, exploiting it and getting out with what you can, nothing is rigid.


One man's rubbish (low) is another man's gold (high).

Simply buying weakness and selling strength, or to short the opposite sell high - buy low to cover. Yes your perspective is timeframe relative. If long, a move/leg/wave carries the momentum of all participants joining in carrying price higher as there's incentive to buy.. once price reaches a point the attractiveness of entering the move diminishes, due to change in terrain (something fundamentally) or just the obvious risk from price gaping changing level has increased and time to take profit..... this works in both directions, in a trend one side of the movement is longer than the other, extension and retracement........ your goal is to enter at those areas where change happens, ideally looking at the retracement to get aboard for the next trend leg.
