oh my this is totally ridiculous given their stated reason/concern of a sustained floor break/abolishment is virtually impossible after last thurs ECB plan along with renewed determination from the SNB...

if they decide to go along with it then they've completely lost all my respect for them as an honest ECN broker that doesn't manipulate their clients for their own selfish gain... Needless to say that'll mean one more broker in my 'bucket shop' and 'inactive+zero balance' list...

Agreed.

Communication should have been at very least provided via "conventional email".

When I traded futures my broker would've been on the phone advising.

That said, as an individual trader one should build communication with ones' broker and not rely on information from anonymous people on the internet.

Under the account type field, select "EDGE Standard".

Put your old Razor's account info in the MT4 login at the bottom. Pepper will do the rest on their end.

I don't see how they are gaining anything from this, it actually hurts their transaction volume on the pair more than anything.

As well, unlike some brokers who outright force closed their client's positions (like vantage) they still allowed quite a bit of leverage AND gave a week's period of time for anyone who had existing positions to trim them down.

In any case, it's still the weekend, in a few days we'll see if they change anything.

In the mean time, I again suggest you look into creating a synthetic EURCHF position if you want more leverage than the cross will give you outright. No one else is talking about this, and I really don't understand why since it breaks the 25:1 barrier easily.

Margin for EUR/CHF is 25:1

BUT

Margin for EUR/USD is 400:1

Margin for USD/CHF is 400:1

Combining the two for a synthetic pair means you can gain more exposure to EUR/CHF than you can on the EUR/CHF cross itself.


Example:


Let's say:

  1. EUR/CHF trades at ~1.2092
  2. EUR/USD trades at 1.2792
  3. USD/CHF trades at 0.9454



If you want to go long 1 standard lot of EUR/CHF, at 25:1 margin, and your account was based in USD, it would tie up ~$5116 in margin (Remember, your USD account needs to get EUR first, so it ties up a little more than just the unit size divided by 25.)

However, if you create the synthetic equal to 1 standard EUR/CHF lot long, using EUR/USD and USD/CHF with the regular 400:1 margin, you would just have to do the following:

 

  1. Buy 1 standard lot of EUR/USD, which ties up ~$319 in margin.
  2. Buy ~1.28 standard lots of USD/CHF, which ties up ~$320 in margin.


On the 1 lot EUR/USD long position, you are SHORT~$127,920 USD in notional value (which it costs to buy 100k Euro.)

On the 1.28 lot USD/CHF long position, you are LONG $128,000 USD in notional value.

Your net USD is near $0 (not exactly, but close enough to effectively remove USD exposure.)

The remaining exposure is 100,000Euro Long by ~120,900CHF short, or synthetically 1 EUR/CHF lot long.

The synthetic only ties up ~$639 in total margin, which is an effective rate of ~198:1 -- WAY better than 25:1 tying up ~$5116 with the cross pair directly to have the same exposure.


If you're gonna hold over hundreds of pips of difference then the exposure might shift slightly and require minor adjustment.. but effectively it's the same exposure as straight EUR/CHF.

This is why I kept mentioning 'synthetic' position back when FX13 was having his fit about the EUR/CHF margin change. Literally the second I read the message from Pepper about the change, my mind went "easy to get around."

I hope that explains things a bit better.

EDIT: This is not suggesting everyone get up and trade synthetics, I'm just describing one of many tools available to traders beyond what's neatly packaged in a broker's platform.

The math in my example would be a little different if you switched direction (going short the synthetic instead of long), desired cross was different (the currency pairs used, order of the quote and base currency in the pair,) and such.. so see that babypips link I posted earlier for more info and please use a demo play around with constructing them til you get it right.. this was just an example after all as it related to recent banter on this thread.

If I was, would I be detailing how to get around Pepper's 25:1 leverage restriction on EUR/CHF? LOL...

I'm a trader. I live and breath this stuff (for a living at an equities firm during the day and forex for myself personally) and have been doing it long enough to have a bit of experience to share.

I might see things a bit differently when someone complains in this thread, and voice my opinion about it accordingly (I strongly detest traders who externalize blame on the broker for issues that fall under their own responsibility) but I often agree with complaints as well if I feel they are valid concerns... plus, if you dig through the pages you'll see that I'm often critical of Pepperstone when problems which concern me arise... (like back in Jan/Feb when they had server issues that lead them to revamp their infrastructure.)

So just looking to be helpful here on ForexFactory. I've poked my head around some other boards making mention of Pepperstone, sure, but I mainly post here and just try to help others out.

See the link in my signature to the thread I started that talks about the trading mentality it takes to do this professionally, and gaining consistency.. it's my non-broker related help I do for the forum as well.

PS. Sometimes I get info from Pepper that's not public yet, or get to test some nifty new tool... that comes from me writing them many complaints, comments and concerns.. even making videos and recordings of issues that arise and sending them in hoping it helps them fix things. I bet their entire support team knows my account intimately by now, as I'm quite the squeaky wheel, but I have good reason to be (being a trader.) The take away here is I bring valid issues I have up to their attention, and I act reasonable given what's the trader's responsibility and what's the brokers.. This is the key, as acting irate and unreasonable won't get you far with anyone.

I just edited it to be a bit more clear.

Synthetic pairs are very important to understand because some people trade baskets of different pairs and it costs them a lot more overall (spread wise) than if they just traded the currency cross said basket would create.

In the example I gave here, the synthetic pair (or basket of two positions) ends up being more favourable because the margin conditions are a lot better than the cross itself.

You can use the same method to effectively create any cross currency pair the broker doesn't offer... for example, you can trade the cost of Gold priced in Euros if you so wished. Just gotta learn the math of it and away you go.

thx, i get the concept. it's more the continual conversions in and out of different currencies where i usually get lost and so just stick my head in the sand. it's like long-division... primary school kids can do it, but if you don't keep at it then your brain turns to mush and you can't remember where to even begin. kryptonite of the currency trader.
