If no speculators in market.
then market loses 1 of it components.
Then cost of hedging becomes expensive.
because market makers cannot offload the risk.
When businesses find it too expensive to hedge, then they will assume the pricing risk.

DislikedActually if the foreign exchange markets grind to a halt we could go back to the gold (standard) age, not the stone age. This would be a good thing for free market economies. Floating currencies have never been an integral part of free markets, they are a tool whereby governments can manipulate the value of money, as you undoubtedly know already.
Vibrant, growing economies flourish more easily in an environment with a stable currency, not one that bounces up and down.
I make these comments simply because some people might assume that currency...Ignored

Dislikedsorry but you are not correct in your assumption.
the gold standard is a good store of value.
but is weak medium of exchange/transaction.
esp for fast growing economies.
is limited by its commodity characteristics.
Ok then please explain how an economy stays vibrant if it cannot factor in the growth that it's sustained on an ongoing basis? You said stability, Markets are stable, mostly, in their gyrations if its use is not impeeded by artificial means. They gyrations of prices is what keeps it balanced. Is her search for equilibrium.

DislikedI agree with FTI that honor is an absolute value and should be the basis of human relationships. But I do not think the concept of honor can always rely on financial matters. Honor there can be only between people loyal. Financial markets for the most part there is nothing fair and then the honor has no value.
We come to Greece.
The greek people fell into a trap financial and now faces commitments impossible to meet. The financial traps are put in place so sneaky and fraudulent. The effect is that of Shock Economy so well described by Naomi Klein.
