Hi. Does anyone know an indicator which shows the length between open and close of the previous bar in pips = length of the previous candle's body. thank you.

it is necesary for 1-5 min chart when you need quickly make decision and have no time to count. for example if i have a set up on the 5 min chart i look if the previous candle's body wasnt' too long. if the body of the candle before my setup is too long, i will not open my position because, frequently after the long candle comes the retracement. but if there is a setup i need to decide quickly to trade or to stay away, i need to decide quickly because price can move further and i will not enter at a good price. And if theres an indicator that shows in pips the length of the previous candle's body, i can decide within second to enter at my setup or not.

New params in attached version:

CandleBodyOnly:
-- TRUE: plots (absolute) distance between candle open and close
-- FALSE: plots (absolute) distance between candle high and low

RefreshEveryXMins:
-- if negative value, indicator must be refreshed manually
-- if zero, it gets refreshed every new tick (may slow your computer down, esp if attached to many charts)
-- if 1, 5, 15, 30, 60 or 240, then it refreshes whenever the first tick of a new M1, M5, M15, M30, H1 or H4 candle occurs (regardless of the timeframe of the chart to which it's attached)

Let me know if there are any problems.

Nevermind, found one. Somebody around here was kind enough to program it for free so here it is.

could someone please help me and modify this indicator to check also high and low according to the previous bar. If current candle has HH and HL and histogram value is < 50 then histogram bar is green, if current candle has LH and LL and histogram value is also < 50 then histogram bar is red. Any other result should plot gray histogram bar.

To enable alerts, AlertPips must be set to a non-zero value. Then if the length of the AlertCandle equals or exceeds this pip value, the alert criteria has been met.

--- Set AlertCandle = 1 if you want the alert to trigger when the current candle completes (i.e. becomes candle #1 on the chart), and also meets the alert criteria, and a new candle (#0) starts to form.

--- Set AlertCandle = 0 if you want the alert to trigger immediately the current candle (#0) meets the alert criteria. (The alert should trigger only once even if the candle meets the criteria repeatedly while it is forming.)


The alert, when triggered, will be transmitted as follows:

--- If ChartAlert = true, the standard MT4 alert will sound/display.

--- If EmailSubject is non-blank, then an e-mail will be sent provided that the e-mail facilities in MT4 have been configured correctly (e.g. see here and here).


I haven't tested this exhaustively, but it's been modeled on code that's worked correctly in the past.

This indicator is just what I'm looking for, but I cannot get it to appear on my custom indicators. I have put it in the /experts/indicators folder and restarted MT4, but it will not show up. Does it also need an ex4 indicator with it or something?

What version of Windows are you running?

If Vista or Win 7, you may need to either (1) sign on as a system administrator or (2) re-install MT4 somewhere other than under the Program Files folder. This is a known Windows design flaw. It has nothing to do with the indicator. I stubbornly refuse to downgrade from Win XP, and it works just fine for me.

Hy guys!

I have the same request, an indicator wich shows the last candle length close - open, but I have an extraordinary wish. I want this value to be exactly under the last candle time wich is shown by the indicator what I attached.
With other words: under the actual price line..

An another request: there is a plenty of indicator wich draws horizontal lines in particular prices in example 1.300, 1.3100, 1.3100. I need theese round number levels but i have enough line on my chart.
I need only the price labels on the vertical scale.
Is it possible to do somehow?

This is great indicator. Exactly what I have needed. But I think there is one bug in it. When I set Alertcandle to 1 . Everything works as you explained. But if I set it to 0. I will not get alert automaticaly when it gets trigered. It will only throw out the alert after you have switched between timeframes or if you have entered the indicator and closed it with pressing ok. That throws out the whole purpose of the alert. Maybe it's possible for you to check on this?
I hope I have explained it well enaugh. If not please let me know. And I hope you will have time to look at this.

Hello,

What would make this indicator even better. If it was possible to set it the way that it would give alert when there is one candle exceeding the average pips of previous (x) canles
For example 5 candles have average of 20 pips, the the next candle is 40 pips in size or doulbe the size of previous 5 candle average.

If for instance other time the previous 5 canldes have the average of 100 pips. The indicator would give alert only when next/alert candle would be 200 pips.

I think I've fixed the bug. I'm surprised that it hadn't been reported before.

Anyway, with regard to your enhancement request, the newly attached version now works like this:

 

  1. If AlertCandle >= 0, the indy works as previously described in post #10.

  1. However, if you set AlertCandle to a negative value, this will cause an averaging calc to be performed like you described, in conjunction with the AlertPips value. For example, if you set AlertCandle = –7, and AlertPips = 2.5, then this will cause an alert to occur immediately the currently forming candle's height >= 2.5 x the average height of the last 7 (completely formed) candles. Hope that makes sense.

To install, either:
1. Download the .ex4 file, and restart MT4;
or
2. Download the .mq4 file ...../(MT4)/experts/indicators folder, and the .mqh files to the ...../(MT4)/experts/include folder, and the indy will compile successfully. Ignore any warning errors.

Ok, maybe and just maybe it was a small probability that you might look at that bug, but I was sure that I should not ask for that enhancement wich I did because I didn't think that there are people in the world that would give their time for this. WOW, I'm truly amazed and that puts a smile on my face.

Ok back to business.

There is small problem with enchancment which you did.

When I set AlertCandle to -x and AlertPips to x
The indicator gives me alert on the amount of AlertPips reached.
In your example if AlertPips = 2.5
AlertCandle = -7 lets say that average is 10 pips so it should give alert when 25 pips is reached ( 2.5x10 ) but it already gives alert when 2.5 pips are reached.
I think when AlertCandle is set to a negative level ( -x.pips) the function for alert at AlertPips should be turned off and give alert only when AlertPips Xpips times Average of x candles is reached.

I hope I explaned it well enaugh for you to understand. Looks complicated.

I've just fixed what I believe was a bug in the indicator that I posted earlier today. I have attached the latest version (.ex4 and .mq4) to post #18, overwriting the previous files.

Sorry for any inconvenience. I did a rush job and didn't test it properly. (I don't use the indicator myself).
