I'm not sure if this applies to every pair, but the two I primarily focus on (EUR/USD and AUD/USD) both get sluggish by 4:15-30 or so. I aim to be completely flat by 4:15 because of this.

5pm might be the close for FX but once US cash equities close up at 4pm it's a downhill slide in Forex volume and movement til 5pm.

Forex might be a 24hour market, but the better trading happens when sessions overlap or the US equity market hours are on. (No offence Sydney, Australia, but until Tokyo open things are pretty dull during your session. )

I've heard it takes about a day once you give notice here:

For me, I already had my old account and a new Edge running and all I had to do was an internal transfer, and that just took a business day.

Old accounts should still work fine after you submit the request, so you should be able to keep trading til they make the switch.

Yeah. I have noticed that to, it starts around 11:30 to slow down usually. I am usually done by noon, well... Like I said there is always a first… Man, long, long scalp… Still blowing on the screen, lol

Think i might just close it with a smaller profit. i am just so stubborn... Follow your plan they say,lol.

(stupid (a-la Homer S.) Sydney and Australia session. no follow thru/movement/volatility...stuck here now. ) Yeah, Actually never bothered trading it. So, clueless as to how it moves...

In the past I've been granted FIX access from Pepperstone, as I'm wanting to hook up MultiCharts.... Of course having the access and actually getting a FIX programmer to get me connected are two different things

I'd have to get in touch again once I'm settled in with EDGE to see what I can do about that now. It might have all changed with the move to EDGE, though I doubt it. I'll give it a little bit longer before I switch over anyway.

I was told recently that they are working on bringing another platform to market (not webtrader), but I'm not sure of the confidentiality surrounding the discussions I had - jack_larkin seems to be the go-to guy when it comes to knowledge about this stuff. Maybe he's heard something....

i talked to their reps numerous times as well, and was given different answers each time. i will give them another chance, otherwise i'm closing my account.

fxpro uk's ctrader platform gives even tighter spread (constantly under 0.3 for eur & gbp, have seen 0 spread often too) with the same commission (with rebate).

i would actually give them some trust this time, since the rep asked the management team for me and come back with some more specific info. I was told the webtrader will have one click feature, but without DOM as in MT4.

Pepperstone is good broker
but they have a offset problem with their charts

their market price is 0.5 pip different then chart price
both Bid & Ask

I had discussed this with their supprt at 2011, they said they will fix it
not fixed yet

PS : if any EA uses "Close[0]" instead of "Bid" it fill have different results!!!

back with more update:
another rep i talked to today says they are still testing the web platform. seems they are indeed working on it, but obviously their developer has been slacked off. tell me to check back with them in a few weeks... well. i guess i will move my money out and keep the account open. might switch back with them later.

I really like FXPro cTrader platform. The commissions are very high though. 65 per million. What kind of rebates do you get and where from?

I've found two rebate companies who can give me $4 or $5 for majors (round trip), so that would be $4 ($6.5 - $5/2) per standard lot. pepperstone's commission isn't cheap, USD$3.76 - USD$0.75/2 rebate, which is about $3.40 per standard lot. ctrader is just 60 cents more expensive

ctrader gives much tighter spread on almost all pairs, and their developers are also very responsive and helpful. I have been emailing them with feedback, suggestions on the platform, they responded every of my email within 24 hours.

i like pepperstone, but their platform isn't user friendly for short term trader at all, i don't want to spend more than 3 mouse clicks to close a trade, the market could go against me during the time, and that would ruin the whole idea of their tight spread. by the way, i'm not a scalper looking for less than 10 pips profit, but still, in long term, the complicated trading tool could cost you, invisibly.

Not sure about what all the fuss is with having a new platform. I like MT4. What am I missing? This forum offers a wide variety of scripts and tools to make trading easier (oneclick or two...) via MT4. All free.

thanks for the link. i'm a mac user, i like simple, clean and intuitive tools for trading. i've tried to install mt4 on my machine using mac mt4 wrapper, it works ok. but when i add more scripts, indicators to it, it drags down my machine tremendously, the latest DOM from edge makes it unusable.

mt4 is missing a lot of features and simplicity that I used to have with dukascopy. i can't merge positions, can't close partial position easily, the ticket creating panel is very confusing. it's still like a piece of software like in the 90's, who doesn't care about user experience at all. interactive brokers is another good example of crappy system. their tws app looks like a piece of crap created by bunch of university students.

i used to be a software developer myself, so i might be a bit picky on the app i use. i was even thinking of writing my own app using their FIX protocol, but most companies have a high threshold to use it.

Yeah, the DOM freezes up my win 7 x64 quad core system if i have 4 charts open. So, not using it.

MT4 takes a bit of getting use too. But once everything is setup the way you want it with scripts, tools, hotkeys, etc... It’s pretty decent. IMHO.

I don’t merge positions and close partial trades, but I have seen some EA’s around that do it for you. But adding an EA will just bring up problem # 1.

Time for a new windows pc? Just kidding.

Yeah, supporting FIX is just one side of MC's connectivity, and it would fill the requirements MC needs to connect through, but MC has to setup a profile to connect to Pepper from their end.

I think I've said it here before, but I would really love to see MC work with Pepper.

Sadly, there aren't many people who would use it on the retail side.. most just want MT4, so with little demand I don't expect to see it anytime soon.

I haven't heard anything about a completely new platform (outside of the stuff they are working on to fill the holes left by the old Xogee web and mobile
apps.)

Speaking of the web trader app.. I did find out a bit more. Will detail in a bit.

Ahh.. that's the reason why you were so critical about the web app coming along. You're probably a bit frustrated since MT4 has nothing native or simple on Mac. Explains the charged comments..

Well, I did suss out a bit more about the new web app.. nothing's official out of Pepper as of yet but it appears they are learning toward Sirix's web and mobile platform:

Reading from their site, the web platform will have one click trading, but no DOM.. It will have good charting (seems to include all the timeframes and indicators one would expect) and even include tick charts.

The platform will include an app for tablets too... not just the iPad, but any tablet that can support HTML5 applications.

This isn't just a plugin to MT4's server infrastructure, apparently the whole thing is run with it's own backend systems and needs to run along side MT4's backend.. so integration isn't as simple as flicking on a switch.

And as I was told by their chat rep.. it will be a few weeks, but it is rolling along.


If I hear anything more I'll post it here... looks promising so far. Let's just hope Sirix is MetaQuotes' good graces so we don't have another Xogee on our hands. (Still a shame what happened there.)
