What this thread will not be;

1) A " Can you code this for ME" thread. It is indended for people that already have a handle on MQ4 and what to expand their knowledge.

2) It is not a thread for the currect usage of the english lanuage or spelling. If you can not accept the fact that for some people english is a second lanuage then MOVE ON, your on the wrong thread and maybe forum.

3) It is not a thread on trading (although I may give some advise here and there). I will not post any trades, statements, or any other personal information. nor will I give any of my indicator coding, except to the point that it is used to show a given point.

4) This thread will not be a repeat of the MT coding manual (help file). If MT doesnot behave or play well with others, there will not be any "quit time" I will show how to take it to the wood shed, till it does what you want.

5) This thread will not be a butch thread nor a bull shit thread, if someone like ' iDumass ' comes arround with his bullshit I will not pick my words well. I will tell him how to pack his shit and send him down the road, In my most socially dysfunction way. I'am not saying my way is the best way, but that if someone trys to lay the bull shit too deep will not last too long here.

6) There will be no commercial promotions here, any thing that is posted will be free, although some may not be open source.


This thread is for learning and I will do my best to give my knowledge out, any one that wishes to post their coding ideas is welcomed. Especially if they have something that has not been done before or if they have different and better ways of doing things then the typical MT way.

I will not spend my time here if no one is interested in this subject matter, that is if there is no partisipation this thread will die a quick and painless death. My time is scarce but will do my best to be helpful. Tomorrow I will start with 'Graphical User Interface' and MT or any other topic someone may suggest.

Will start with some thing simiple today as I have little time. The two screen shots below I have posted before both are created on the same. both have a base graphic layer with different layers that can be swaped in and out of view with in the client area of the software, the only different one is a seperate program and the other is coded with in MT in its native lanuage. The third screen shot is constructed the same way as the Meta Applet that is in pages / layers

Before you get into attempting any graphics you have to understand how MT handles and displays graphic object. All graphics that are contained on a window are all considered equal no matter which porgram created it, That is if you have a data window open and have half a dozen subwindow all containing indicators that draw objects all are grouped together which makes it difficalt to create detailed graphics just the simple little ledger sheet can give you heart burn if another inidcator draws graphics within the same window. Its objects may appear on top of your well planed output if you donot plan ahead when createing your graphic designs.

Once you have this mastered it is easy to that that to the next level and that is createing a user interface that you can control your whole system from, the last screen shot is a flow chart of my system it starts with the user communicating with the system through a program called the controller. This program that just that controls the flow of information through out the system. you can do this with the use of drag and drop objects, mouse over, mouse clicks, key envents both user enter and program generated.


So before you start to create any detailed graphics in MT you have to create you sceam for nameing them as that is what MT uses to display them. That is it uses the first letter of the name to draw them 'A' will be drawn before 'B', number '1' will be drawn before '2' and both will be drawn before the 'A' and the 'B'.

Example if you have two objects;
one named >>>> 'this is my first object'
two named >>>> 'this is my second object'
the number two object will be drawn on top of the first which will be determined by the 's' of the word 'second'

I have developed a naming method that has worked well for me and it is this;


9.99 999 XXX 9 GROUP CLASS TYPE .....

9's and numbers X's are letters

the first 3 digit double is the page layering of the graphics. This is the part of the naming MT will use to layer the graphics display. The first digit is the page number the next two digits are the layering contained with in the page. Page 9.-- will be painted on top of page 8.-- and that over page 7.-- etc...

Now if you use the page as the major graphic objec and the layer and sub layers to give that page the details on top of the base graphics you can create very detailed output.

Using is you can delete your graphics by page, layers, or sub layers. and paint a new graphics, that is if you delete the layers you can paint a new layer on top of the original page. any one that was arround when DOS was the norm will reconized this as one had to use graphic pages to display graphics.

now as for the remainer of the name the next 3 digits are the program ID that is which program that drew the object, the next 3 letters is the program symbol, these two can be used to delete all graphics that a program has drawn and which copy of the program it belows too. that is if we have two copies of the same program running both will have different program ID numbers there by we can control which group of objects that must be controled by which copy of the program.

The next sigle digit is the window that the graphics is painted to, which comes in handy when one whats to delete all graphics on a given window no matter which program created it.

The next divition is the group name and its class and type this is when your painting some thing that contains different parts the group name is the base with the class and type being subdivitions of the group. This will accomplish the deletion of a group graphics by its name or part of its name. not all groups will have subdivisions.

The remainer of the name is a more detailed subdivision if needed but it will have to be handle on an indiviual base when needed.

I know it sounds very complicated but is not if you really understand this, You only have to devise this once and use it to create all your graphics. If you want to generate detailed graphics along with all its other uses you will need to get your mind arround this, when you have this under control you then can create reuseable graphic deletion routines that will control the deletion of your graphics.

There is one other refinment to this which I will cover later when we create user controls they are handled a little different as they are not seen but hidden under the root page. also when creating applets or other graphics were we donot want to have any of MTs output pressent we have to paint the graphics above the cap layer. These are the interesting areas in generating graphics.

You can use my method of nameing or create your own. but remember that its the begining of the name that is very important to create your graphics.

I will post some code tomorrow were this naming is in use to show how it is used.

I was totally confused before I started and am now only slightly confused :-)
Is that progress?
A good taster having me wanting to see the next step when some code may bring enlightenment (I hope).

I am heading off to the dirt tracks because I am totally mad and just want to be simply mad.
