I have the right "true" setting for the MA close. Did you have this kind of issue before? I could look at the code, but don't have the source code.

Maybe a silly question but you did leave the platform open when the candle closed? It works perfectly for me every time.

It worked later after I restarted the MT4. Indeed, the platform was closed for awhile. But I thought the EA should at least check every new bar, after MT4 being closed and opened again I ran it for 2-3 hours, and all new candles closed above MA, but EA still didn't close the trade. It only started to work correctly after restart. Anyway, a small issue, thank you for helping.

Thanks HB for the link! My friends who do engineering or computer science suggested me to learn Java first and once I understand algorithms, I can easily pick up C++... So maybe I'll begin with Java (http://www.codecademy.com/ - pretty good website to learn Java if you interested)

And man! This EU spike wiped out 3% of my account! I shorted EU @1.226, put SL @ 1.234

It's a really good idea not to take large trades anywhere near a major news announcement!

Python?! I'll have a look. Anyway, the purpose of learning c ++ was to get a grounding in the language used in mql5 but I've since found out that it's barely worth learning and it's a shit platform. All my ea's are in mq4 at the moment and I intend to stick with that for as long as possible. Hopefully mt6 will be better!

That is interesting... In my opinion, if someone wants to learn C++ it is definitely better to start with C or C++ itself, no need to learn JAVA first. JAVA is C++ descendent. However, don't know the behind reasoning of your friends.

And for Hugh, yes, knowing C++ would help understand the MQL5 better, but you would spend quite a lot of time in learning C++ basics, and eventually you would find that MT5 is still different from C++. You could also start just with MT5 language tutorials.

But we are getting away from Swing trading with heiken ashi... :-)

yea we did About trades, I think USDCAD, CADJPY is setting up nicely (CAD to devaluate). However, today NFP numbers will come out so I wouldn't want to jump into trading right away (not gonna repeat my mistake)
guys I have a problem... I just shorted EU @1.224, Put SL @ 1.228, Then there was some glitch in the system and all of a sudden my I hit my SL but looking at a chart it never reached 1.228 only reached 1.2276. What should I do???

get in touch with your broker immediately. Which broker are you using by the way, Igor?

Hugh, I am trying to understand better what is a smooth pullback and what are the correct entries. Looking at the example of USDCHF H4 setup in the beginning of your thread I noticed that earlier and later after this entry there are some other possible entries. Can you look at them and tell me why they are or are not good entries?

See the charts attached.

1) 04-19: This is a pullback just a little earlier before the one in your example. Looks like a valid signal, isn't it?

2) 04-25: This is also looks like a valid pullback. Only that in the middle of the pullback there are two very small but still red candles, does that invalidate "smoothness"? Also only the second bigger red candle down coincides with stochastic cross. Should it be the setup candle exactly at the same time as stochastic cross for the valid signal?

3) 04-28: Not setup because stochastic cross is not smooth? And because the first reversal candle didn't coincide with stochastic cross?

4) 05-02: What is the problem with this entry? Is it a valid entry?

I got in touch with my broker and found out there was no malfunction. I have a 3 pip spread on a pair, so when the price reached 1.22771, it hit my SL of 1.22800. I didn't took into account that the chart was just showing bid price. I guess it's fair.

Btw my broker in markets.com. Does anyone know whether they are good brokers?

The first one doesn't look like a closed candle. The others look ok except that not all of the pullbacks are very smooth.

Thank you! Actually the first one is a closed candle. On FT2 I can move chart candle by candle and stop on every closed candle.

Ha... Getting closer, but still can't define what is "smooth" pullback. Why they are not very smooth?

I would have wanted a bit more confirmation on that first signal then, not a very convincing turn. You get to be able to read the candles after time and what they are telling you. You get to know what looks right and what looks borderline.

By smooth I mean the price has been pulling back without much spikiness. In a downtrend you want the price to pullback with a series of green heiken ashi candles with flat bottoms until the top where it turns and gives you the signal. I will try and post an example soon but the first signal had the smoothest pullback of them all.

That makes it clearer for me! Thanks, will try to do some more backtesting having what you said in mind.
A small suggestion. It would be helpful if HB could post a list of current pairs on an established trend and update it weekly.
