After you unpack it move it to your applications folder. Next right click on your mt4 install files and open with your new mt4 app. Thats it - you will see the install menu's and it will install and be running in about 2 minutes. Easy, peeasy lemon squeezy!

I've been using MT4+wine via winebottler on my MBP for nearly 1 year. As of last week I can no longer manipulate orders anymore. I can't close orders, I can't open new orders, and I can't modify open orders (ie to set stops, take profits).

The app just seems to hang and never performs the requested operation.

anyone come across this before? I'm not sure where to begin checking...

a coule of weeks ago my mt4 installation with winebottler got very very slow and froze all the time. so I looked for alternatives and found wineskin winery - it's much better than winebottler in my opinion - easier install, faster start, no slow down so far, winetricks work.. just give it a try

Haven't noticed any reduction in performance with winebottler, but to install new MT4 a/c, tried wineskin winery - much easier to set up, also no cost in comparison with crossover. No problems so far - thanks.

One thing i have noticed with Wines is that when i disconnect an external hard disc wines begins to take up about 80% of the CPU and freezes, I have to restart wines to fix it. anyone else noticed this? It also occurs for me with Crossover.

Hey Smashin,

Great guide! Good work.

Did you try running mt4 using wines? http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/

This is what i do and it uses little resources. I usually have 1 or 2 mt4's open, safari with a few tabs, excel 2011, itunes, skpye, mail, & a few other light apps, with fan at the 1800 rpm minimum, 52˚C cpu and about 5-15% usage of, and memory as in the pic below. There aren't any issues with floating windows, and i find it works really smoothly, i tried with windows 7 on vm but it took more cpu, and virtually...

I have just followed your instructions to install MT4 on my MacBook Pro. It runs perfectly. I am uk based and use Alpari. I downloaded the MT4 install from the MT4 website. Then switched out the server files. I am now very happy and can finally give one of my family the old Dell laptop.

Thanks Rooicol.

Hello again

I am just thinking about trying out Mt5. Obviously I want to run this on my Mac. Is there a simple way to upgrade or do I have to install from scratch?

Thanks

I failed to get MT5 yo work on my mac 10.7.3 using Wine. I did a fresh install of MT5 (only takes about 30 seconds), it load up fine, but won't connect to the internet in any way, so i can't log into an account. Same problem occurred using Crossover.

I'd be interested to hear how other people have manage to get MT5 to work on OS Lion.

Hi guys,

Does any one know how to add custom indicator to MT4 platform which running via Wine (X11) version 1.2.3?
I try to add my custom indi to [my broker app>show package contents>contents>resources>drive_c>program files>GO Trader MT4>experts>indicators] but it seems doesn't work.

I don't need fancy indi, just wondering it would be great if I can add Candle Time indi to my chart.

Currently I'm running MBP OS 10.7.4 and got my MT4 bundled from my broker.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

-I-

Yes, I did. Is there any difference between indi from MT4 running on windows and MT4 running on Wine for Mac?

There shouldn't be. There will be some slight differences in the returned value of some function calls. For example, GetTickCount() will vary depending on the clock speed of your cpu, but I think this is unlikely to be the problem for you. more likely you haven't put the mq4/ex4 in the right folder. Try adding another indicator and see if that works, make sure you restart MT4 or compile the mq4 file before checking if it is present in the navigator

7) Download this file: http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=635373 , unzip it, and place the "MT4 Prefix" folder in your home folder, (under the directory: /Users/[username]/)

Hey rooicol,

would you mind reuploading this prefix? The link is dead.

thanks

i have a little problem using wineskin for MT4.
On the pending order, the default setting is the PO will be expired in 7 hours, even I have unchecked the expiry tab, it always closed my PO 7 hours later, so I have to change the expiry date to year 2013.
Are there any users have this same issue?
