I'd like to know, why the spread EUR/USD (for example) got higher in the last months/year, mostly 2,5 - 2,8 pips now. I remember the spread was more tight 1-2 years ago ( 2,0-2,5).
Are there any reasons for that?

Hi Zam,

Thanks for that suggestion. I've passed it along to our trading desk. I can tell you that for now, they have told me there aren't currently any plans to quote Gold or Silver against anything other than US dollars. I will let you all know should that change.

I can understand how this could help if you were looking to speculate on the change in value of gold relative to the Euro. For now, you would have to do this buy placing two separate trades. For example, if you felt that Gold will rise in value relative to the Euro, you would buy XAU/USD and sell EUR/USD. If you felt Gold will fall in value relative to the Euro, then you would sell XAU/USD and buy EUR/USD.

Note, that you can trade XAU/USD in accounts of any currency denomination we offer including EUR, CHF, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD and NZD.

Hi Napoleon,

Since our forex spreads are set by price competition from multiple liquidity providers, they can vary based on market volatility and liquidity. As that changes, so too can the spread. If you would like to gain access to tighter spreads, I would recommend looking into the active trader program which offers lower transaction costs through a reduced spread/commission combination. The transaction cost is dependent on the amount of volume you transact on a monthly basis, so transaction cost could decrease as your volumes increase.

Initially for GU it looks more expensive than standard, 1.8pips +0.5 each way = 2.8 okay the spread might be lower but that's your quoted spread, currently looking at 2.4.

If you order 10 full lots, so $100 per pip, do you still just pay $5 in and $5 out ?? if not then big savings at $100 per pip ofcourse.

I'm a long long long way of Active Trader status let alone $100 per pip, but plan for the future.

Just worked out my trading volume, I need to make 1000, $1 per pip mini trades, think I'm on 25 for the last week, so well short will look into more when I get to $10 per pip and only 100 trades per month.

My deposit amount is even shorter LO

Hi,

I am new to the whole trading world, and my focus is on VPS hosting. I have been on review sites and many company websites that provide VPS hosting, but being new to it, I am not sure which one to actually trust. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me with finding the best company or companies that can provide this service for me.

I've read about the launch of FXCM FastMatch platform, does this mean we can see the buyers and sellers and their respective VOLUME in the orders section? If this is so, can we also see the volume in the hourly/daily chart?

I don’t get it. If the EURUSD here is 2.5 pips, why not look at something like MBT Free EXN plan where the all-in spread is 0.8 consistently?

FXCM Pro clients are larger institutions and hedge funds trading currency for delivery with a Prime Broker. If you are looking for such institutional services, you can click here to contact the FXCM Pro department directly. Alternatively, if you are looking for lower spreads/commissions on a margin-based trading account, you can contact the Active Trader department.

Cause bucket shops are fine as long as your losing, start making money which is the aim and they'll start messing you around and possibly even close your account down and boot you out seriously.

Not all, but it's a risk you take, no idea on that particular broker.

Please do let us know when above products introduced by FXCM By the way, I have one trade issue yesterday, and just send an e-mail to FXCM team for Trade Audit / Trade Inquiry. Hopefully will get positive answer about it.

I just read this news from WSJ. 1 July 2012, another two weeks to go for launching date.

Credit Suisse Group AG and currency brokerage FXCM Inc. said they are teaming up to start a new foreign-exchange trading platform, in the latest effort to streamline trading in the world's largest financial asset class.

The vast bulk of the roughly $4 trillion in daily currency trades are handled by banks. But market participants have voiced growing concern that banks have too much control over the cost of transactions, and that high-speed traders are outmaneuvering others in the market on large orders.

The Fastmatch FX platform, scheduled to launch on July 1, is aimed at addressing those concerns by providing faster transaction speeds and real-time trading data, according to Credit Suisse and FXCM.

The backers say the platform lets firms see and adjust their trading in microseconds—amenities they said are common in the stock markets but little used so far in currency trading.

The launch will bring a new competitor for the roughly half-dozen existing operators of currency-trading platforms, including ICAP PLC and Thomson Reuters Corp. Fastmatch's backers say it will benefit from the existing customer base of FXCM, which is among the biggest currency brokerage firms in the world, with some 200,000 retail accounts and 500 institutions that together trade $19 billion a day worth of currencies.

The venture comes as the currency market faces pressure to evolve. Pension funds and state officials have filed lawsuits against banks like State Street Corp. and Bank of New York Mellon Corp. alleging the banks regularly overcharged clients on currency transactions, accusations the banks have denied.

Last month, brokerage Tradition Ltd. and a group of banks including Deutsche Bank AG, Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC and Barclays PLC said they plan to start a platform called TraFXpure as a bank-friendly venue to curb advantages held by high-frequency traders. State Street Corp. owns a foreign-exchange platform called Currenex.

Similar concerns about transparency and trading practices in the equities market have helped give rise over the past decade to a stock marketplace that participants say is among the most competitive in the world.

"The [forex] market has not kept up with any of these innovations," said Drew Niv, chief executive of FXCM, which contributed start-up capital and will support Fastmatch with business from its brokerage customers.

FXCM in April struck a deal with Credit Suisse in which the bank contributed technology and cash to start up the platform, while FXCM contributed funds, offices and other support, with each partner firm holding a 40% stake and the remainder held by management and employees of Fastmatch. The partners are looking to add to the ownership group by selling equity stakes to other firms, executives said.

Hi AthrunZala,

Actually, FastMatch is not a trading platform. It’s an electronic communication network that will be used by financial institutions (banks, hedge funds, retail brokers, etc.) to execute orders through FXCM’s Pro division.

If you’re interested in volume data, the closest things available on a trading platform would be either the market depth feature on the Active Trader platform or the tick volume indicator on the MT4 platform. Market depth will show you the size of bids and offers placed by the liquidity providers. Tick volume will show you the frequency of price changes which tends to pick up when there is more trading volume.
