I don't agree with your logic, because the amount of pips achieved is a true measure of a traders performance, while a monetary return is not (its a reflection on the amount of money in the account and is entirely dependent on the risk the trader is taking).
A scalper risking 20% of his account to win a 5 pip trade is a pure gambler, there is absolutely no skill involved, however he can show that his account grows 50% or more on each trade.
A swing trader or even a day trader can risk just 2 - 4% of his account...Ignored
