Is MT4 traceable on work computer?

Hi all!

I have been accessing my MT4 from work via Teamviewer.

However, I've found out that my employer is monitoring internet usage..

So, in the interests of being a good employee (!) I need to find another way to access my platform.....

I know I can put MT4 on a memory stick and use it on my work computer, but the question is, will they be able to tell?

Obviously MT4 communicates with the broker's server. Will they be able to see that? Will they be monitoring that kind of data traffic?

I don't know the exact details of workplace monitoring software, just the broad picture. The stuff changes so fast its hard to keep up anyway.

System admin usually have privileges to your computer to update the software and do remote trouble shooting. I don't believe they have secretive snooping capability and you would be able to detect any of their actions during trouble shooting. Knowing the workload and attitude of most admins, they don't have the time and inclination to monitor an individual unless management made them.

Most of the internet monitoring is to block certain known sites such as gambling and porn. But I believe that this also logs every site visited by every user for later analysis. They would know if somebody is overloading the network with continual video and music downloads. So I guess the answer to your question is that they would know details about your connection to a forex broker. But again, why would they care unless management is on your case for some reason?

It seems to me the best approach is to learn and understand your company's policy about use of their resources. You should assume that they will and do monitor them at all times, but of course that is impossible. Personally I did use work place computers for casual use such as checking the markets but I limited such use to my lunch and break times and was careful not to abuse it. I think we all know or heard of others who are blatant abusers and if you don't want to be known as part of that group, you will exert some self control.

as codemiester mentioned, the best approach would be to know your employers policy and follow it....

and yes, absolutely, if the situation warrents it everything done on any terminal can be monitored or controlled.... in highly sensitive situations the local user might not have admin privileges but there could be several levels of remote admin users..... each of which might have it's own set of programs on your local computer unseen or useable by anyone other than them.....

more and more it is becoming common to track everything.... from internet usage down to the hours spent playing solitare......

logs, history, cookies and such can be archive in folders safely out of the local users reach......

we had 5 levels of admins on ours...... kinda hope etrade has twice that......h
