In FOREX, is 10% return per month good enough?

May be some traders think that it's not enough to return 10% in forex. As I think such results are very good! People often lose money in forex because of greed. I think that it's better to have little profit, but you HAVE it.

When it comes to Forex markets, a little could go a long way and that applies to both leverages and profits. In case of profits, it is essential that all newbies learn to trade effectively rather than get fixated on netting a certain %. Even a little profit is actually a good starting point.
Once you have gained enough experience, netting that % is not going to be difficult but to get there, it is going to take some time and effort on your part.

10% is just perfect if only you invest much more than 100$ ! of course I understand you want to start with 100$ then when you see that profits are constant and you do well so 10 to 30k are great if you can make 10% constantly ! ... and you have also to choose a decent broker which is not really easy to find now days .

I disagree here, I find it much easier now to find a "decent" broker than it was a decade ago. Plus now they offer much more trading platforms, funding methods and the spreads are better.

These days finding a decent broker is easier than it's ever been and there are so many resources to help you find the right one for you.

Now, back to the matter of 10% per month. A lot depends on how you plan on getting there. Let's assume there are on average 22 trading days per month. If you planned on making 1% per day that would earn you 22% for the month assuming you're not compounding and you've not taken any losses. Obviously this is way too optimistic to be achievable month after month so let's take it down a notch.
Let's say we only need to make 0.5% per trading day. That would make you 11% for the month, or more if you're compounding your growth - increasing your trade size in line with your increased account equity.
Next you must plan on how you're going to make this 0.5%. One trade per day, 10 trades per day.... etc. Every time you enter a trade you're taking on risk so it could be argued that the more trades the more risk. On the other hand one might argue that in order to achieve the same financial outcome for the month, the more trades you used to get there the more the risk is spread among them.

I personally prefer to take a smaller number of trades while doing the most to ensure the odds are in favour of the trade being a winner.

Your risk is not determined by your goal for the month but rather on how you plan on getting there.

the problem with almost all beginner traders in the forex market, is they calculate all there would-be scenarios, like if I make 10% a month, I will be a millionaire in x years, or if I make y% per month I can retire in xyz months or whatever.

THERE IS NO x% per month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the markets do not work like that. This is not a bank where you put in money and expect to receive a certain % any given month.

as soon as you get this out of your head, that's when you will START being on the right path. You're not even remotely there yet.

Yes, it would be awesome, if one were to make 10-15-40-70 or even 100% a month every month. It will NEVER HAPPEN. EVER. Because the market doesn't work like that. The market doesn't give you what you want. You have to get it and earn it.

To all the rookies, learn these things, and you have just made another step into becoming a better trader:

1. stop planning months in terms of returns. or years. STOP. JUST STOP. stop planning. FOCUS INSTEAD on making the best trades, with the least risk and the highest probability of winning. In the end it's a sum game. Winning trades-losing trades = PROFIT.

2. this is long term. If you think you can make thousands of $ starting with $1000, in one year, think again. Go play roullette at the casino. You have a better chance making it there, and I can assure you it's more entertaining and not frustrating.

3. STOP DREAMING about what you will buy with the money, how your life will change. Once you get there, you can think about that. Until then, get back to work !

4. STOP trying millions of systems !!!!!! Nobody is going to spoon-feed you a system with which you can make money. I mean seriously now !? If I had a PROVEN LONG-TERM system of beating the markets consistenly, I would sell it for millions of dollars(not even joking), no way give it for free on a forum.
Sharing ideas and strategies, having debates with fellow traders, etc, that is a great way to learn and to look at things from a different perspective. But if you think you can just come to FF and browse the trading-system threads and instantly make 2849264926492% per month, get your head out of your a**

5. Trading is hard work. If it were easy, everybody would do it.
Just like poker. You bet on an uncertain outcome in the future(but which has a certain proabability of happening). Why do you think you see pretty much the same names at every big poker torunament making the final tables. Poker is a game of skill. Trading is a game of skill. The best poker players of the world, have an EDGE against the other poker players. They gained that edge through thousand of hours of studying and playing the game. You think they are blessed with more luck than the others ? be real. TRADING IS EXACTLY THE SAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think is a reasonable/doable profit % averaged out weekly, for a skilled/disciplined day trader? 10%, 5%, 2%, 1%, 0.5%, 0.01%, 0.005%, 0.0001%?

I make between 3 and 6 trades a day on average and on each trade I risk 2.5%-3% and my R:R is 1:1, 80% of my trades are winners, I enter at S/R and my TP is the the next S/R level, that could be 10 pips away or 30 pips away. I trade using 5m charts only.

If you are new to trading, I would start with at least 500$ and never risk more than 1% on each trade. make sure you have a system in place that works and go for 5-10 % each month. If you stick to the rules, you will make it without any problems. If not, you won't on the long run! So 10% is a good target!

I meant as now there are too many choices, you have a good chance to open an account with a scammer ( is not that right?

ok, but now there are more scammers, and they can seem good at the start but then you get robbed ! it did not happen to me but I have seen many people complaining out there

You should always be happy if you aren't losing money, everything else is a bonus. Never ever have any set targets in forex.

Very good enough, but the question is can it be achieved consistently? highly unlikely.
