Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has been able to successfully emulate the latest build of Metatrader on Snow Leopard (10.6)???

I have tried everything technique over the last 3 days that I have come across but I cannot make it happen. Currently, I am running it in Parallels but I notice the machine runs hot and the battery life is cut in half, so if it is possible to emulate it without using Windows, that would be preferred. (I notice my MBP only generates heat when running Windows and I do not like that.)

Hi Smashin
I am running MT4 on my new MBA (13",1.8, 4GB), whilst I am not getting astounding battery life I am getting around 3 hours+. I am using VMWare Fusion, cool feature called unity makes MT4 look like its part of the Mac desktop etc. VMWare fusion is available as a free trial at the moment if you fancy giving it a go.

Running native however would be much better.

Hi Rich

My results are similar to yours when I run MT4 in Parallels W7 VM. It works great. I just do not like that it drains my battery life and makes the computer run hotter. My MBP generates almost no heat until I open MT4 in Parallels.

If there is a way to run MT4 in OSx, that would be a much more enjoyable experience for everyone. But at least we do have virtual machines as an option.

You should definitely have a look at VirtualBox.

Its not only free, but also very stable and fast. I'm using it for more than a year and I'm *very* happy with it.

Cheers.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for sharing. Do you notice the MBP facing heat issues running a VirtualBox VM.

As a comparison, my MBP will easily get over 75C when I open an application in Parallels along with my regular OSx applications.

I found that SMCfancontrol helps with the heat issue:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23049/smcfancontrol

I set mine up with different profiles to adjust fan speeds quickly if needed. On AC power I'm running 48 - 53 C @ ~3700 RPM. This is with the same VM and applications mentioned above that were running over 75 C when the machine had been used for some time.

Fans are designed to spin so might as well use them, huh? I figure it is cheaper to replace a fan than a processor and the lower temperature should be better for life of the battery.

I have not tested battery power yet, but I will assume that running the fan at higher RPM will lower the amount of time one can spend using MBP on battery power.

You can't win them all I guess.

Crossover 10.0.1 is the answer!

I will write more detailed instructions later tonight or tomorrow, but I have it working perfectly (as far as I can tell).

This means no need for Windows, computer will run cooler, and battery will last longer. My search is over!

Thanks! That would be nice to run MT4 without parallel or Windows. I'm gonna test it this weekend and see how that works.

Been using BootCamp until now, which is not what I really wanted

Gonna give crossover a try today.
I found a penny today. That's +100 pips for me.
