Once you get a signal candle...how long can you wait on the trigger candle to execute an order? Obviously we want to catch momentum, but I've seen a couple instances this week were price will go up a bit, stall, come down a little, stall, and then 30 minutes to an hour after the signal candle already closed the trigger candle will give the buy signal by going +/- 1 pip from the close of the signal candle. Just curious how long would be "acceptable" to wait for a trigger or does it have to trigger the entry quickly once the new...Ignored

DislikedDid you do this by eye or with a machine?
Did you take trades when already in a trade on the same pair?
Was any allowance made for trend? flat ma?Ignored
DislikedMore thoughts about the backtests:
Can the method be backtested at all ?
If there is too much discretion, no machine can do it.
Flat MA check: machine could do that
Caution at strong S/R levels: very hard for a machine because there
are hundreds of possible S/R levels and Fib-levels it should or could check
for the entry decision.
Caution x minutes before important News:
No machine can do it.
Only if you sit there and define about
10 News weekly x 52 weeks x number-of-years.
Nobody will take the time to do that work .....

DislikedI think it can and should be backtested. Maybe not method itself, but risk management rules. But I don't think of backtest as a way to prove anything. It should give us some benchmark. This method requires some discretionary decisions - this is not a bad thing. But having backtest results we could compare our decisions with mechanical trading. Maybe some of use are making bad decisions, decreasing the egde? That's just one thing that backtest could give us.
Another is analysing the risk management. Maybe if we're getting close to SL (eg. we are...Ignored
Dislikedgreat post Reputake, you're clearly getting it... with regards looking at charts with set-ups on, I totally agree, and I stand by the method I outlined earlier to recap the week looking at every trade, checking results, what trades exceeded 1/1, what trades failed.... etc etc ...Ignored
DislikedBut what I had in mind was more than a weekly sample. I thought about hundreds of transactions. It would be very interesting to have ablity to drill data and get eg. "all trades that could end in 2x risk reward but ended in 1x reward or BE". Then sit and look at the setups (+ do some further data analysis). Maybe there's a way to pick those trades on a setup stage? Or trigger stage?
Or what about being able to look up for very specific data like: you have signal candle that engulfs previous candle in 10:1 proportions. It engulfs also 2 more previous...Ignored
DislikedHi there!
This message is actually directed to fxtr51. However, I noticed i wasn't allowed to send any PM's yet. I have been reading on FF for almost a year now, but I am a true reader and haven't had any reasons for signing up for an account until very recently. Anyway that's the reason for not being able to write a PM to fxtr51, and instead disturb everybody on the thread with a "private message". Please forgive me for this. Hopefully my questions will help some else.
Here we go. First off I would like to thank 60mm for taking his time to...Ignored
QuoteDisliked2. Does the EA take spread into account? I mean will it automatically add for spread. For example, to trigger a long, buystop should be placed 1 pip, PLUS spread, above signal candle's high. Does the EA calculate and apply this?
QuoteDisliked3. I was trying the dashboard, and EA, on demo, a little bit yesterday. I had the dashboard template on for a couple of hours and tried the EA when I got some time between my job tasks. However, after like 6 hours i got an error message from MT4 saying: "out of memory". This was on a quite powerful computer (intel i7 with about 5gb ram). I noticed very much records in the journal from the dashboard. My qestions is then: Is this memory problem common, do you have this problem yourself? It's the dashboard, not the EA, that consumes this memory,...
QuoteDislikedMy other questions is just explanations to the parameters of the EA (trade manager 5.4):
4. If "UseMM" is set to "true" will EA ignore "Lotsize" and instead look for risk percent, right?
QuoteDisliked5. "Closepercent_at_BE", does this mean that when price reaches the BE line stop will be moved to BE and X % of trade will be closed? According to 60mm rules wasn't at half r/r stop will be moved to BE (just as yours) but nothing would be closed. Partial closing was only at TP. Of course it's great to have partial closing on BE point if one wants... But it is also possible to get partial closing at TP, like 60mm rules, instead?
QuoteDisliked6. "Use_trailing_stop": What does this mean? Does it mean a trailing stop will be attached from star?
QuoteDisliked7. "CloseSymbolAll": what does this parameter mean?
QuoteDisliked8. "Use_Timer":what does this parameter mean?
9. "Default_SL_level" and "Deafault_TP_level": is this to have fixed sl and tp in pips instead of 1:1 r/r?
10. "Use_CP":what does this parameter mean, and all the others with this?
11. "Use_BE": Does this parameter mean it will move stop on half r/r if set to true? Then I can't understand default BE level 100?
12. "Use_CL":what does this parameter mean? And default lever?
13. "Delete_on_deinit":what does this parameter mean?
14. "Default_trailing_stop": is this parameter connected to"Use_trailing_stop"?...
QuoteDisliked15. "Fractional_pips": Should this be set to true if using a broker with 5 digits, for example eur/usd: 1.33213?
QuoteDislikedI am very sorry for cluttering the thread with all my technical questions. And I am so sorry for bombarding fxtr51 with all those questions. But I couldn't find any documentation anywhere, so maybe this will help others as well .
QuoteDislikedLooking forward to hear from you.
Thanks in advance! Bst rgrds Jens
DislikedI had a long chat last night with my former "mentor" about this thread, I was concerned that some people in the group were not having great results, closing good trades early or missing really good set ups altogether.
We came to the conclusion that perhaps reading the trend and where the trend will most likely stop is something that also needs explaining.. or at least some basic steps you can go through to add some extra accuracy to your trades..
With that in mind I will try and show a few things I do prior to trading...
Not sure it will...Ignored
