Looking for a tablet for mobile trading

I like my Iphone too much to get rid of it and I need to find a tablet for mobile trading the problem to my understanding is I need a windows based tablet for MT4. Seen an acer and dell but not really what Im looking for and from what I understand from the salesman that Ive talked to I need an air card or wifi for connection does any one have a recomendation for one that is ran like the numerous android based ones that run off of a cell signal?

Well there are few things here:
1) You want a full desktop like windows OS on the tablet to run full mt4 or windows mobile OS for running mt4 for windows mobile (stripped down version of mt4, though IMO still lot better than android/iphone apps of most brokers) ?

2) I think there are some tablets which run windows XP (may be other versions too) like archos brand has one. Further Viliv brand also has a very portable tab with windows. Search for official websites and you will know the models. They have slots for sim cards too to run off 2g, 3g and even wifi etc(and may allow calling too) . There may be some small size netbooks too (but they wont be having sim slots; one need to use sim card based USB dongles to connect to internet)

3) For mobile version, there are many windows mobiles with good config and portability, allowing all above.

4) There are many android tablets out lately which will run off 3g, 2g etc (sim slots) with good configs ranging from 5 to 10inches screen estate
One of these i have is from a reputed brand - HTC. Its a HTC flyer (7inch,1.5ghz, 1gb ram, 96gb+ storage possibility, wifi, 3g,2 Camera, GPS,calling etc). Has got cheaper lately (400-500 USD)
Many brokers have android apps for trading. I do use one from my mt4 broker sometimes . They have improved it further by allowing built in indicators now but overall it sucks (slow, lot of taps and stuff)
Good for looking at price and some charts...may be trading for long time frame traders. (moreover they can be worth more also, if you browse internet, listen to music, camera, gps etc...these days these gadgets are converging over one another)

5) One more thing you can do is, connect to a remote desktop running your mt4. To be of use, you would need a faster connection. Some some things, its a good option, but usually i don't think its more productive anyway !

Ive heard that running the android based tabs you have to use outside apps to access mt4 through a remote access. Which needs the main computer running in order to get on to it. Ill take a look into the cards you were talking about.

What do you mean by outside apps?
Of course, you need some computer to run the mt4/any trading software, if you want to remotely connect to it and do some things (There are many good, freeware remote apps on android platform)

Kindly clarify what exactly you want to do on the tab, and i will inform you bit more along the lines of options posted before.

If monitoring involves seeing custom indicators, ea's etc..
then as posted in first post Option 2 and 5 i.e either a tablet/small netbook which runs windows OS (Install mt4 and do as on desktop) or use a remote application to see screen of your server/desktop running mt4


If monitoring involves just seeing trades (closing opening editing), basic built in indi's..
then option 3 and 4 will help

I've been pretty happy with my Android tablet. It really does what I need and I don't regret selling my old laptop. For me, I was always annoyed at how terrible battery life was with my old laptop. I'd go to a public place with wifi, and everyone would be plugged into the wall

With my tablet I can go a whole day, have the basic apps I need. I went with the Asus Transformer. A keyboard dock is sold separaately and adds hours more battery life. Its tough to type a lot on a tablet, the keyboard dock is great to type on, feels like a netbook. If you're a tech trading geek like myself, you can peek at my blog, I sometimes share the tech side of my forex trading.

Are you using Ubuntu 12.04 entirely or dualboot with Windows?

Interesting found someone using MT4 under Linux.

I have read 3-4 more people using MT4 on linux successfully (VPS mainly as its cheap). Search around.
But most of the time, they did have some issues for sure. All functions on MT4 were not glitch-proof (At least last time when i read those threads)

I honestly don't use Windows much. I mean I can dual boot, but 90% of the time I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 on both Unity or Gnome 3. The only time I'm on Windows is if I want to watch Netflix. It takes some tweaking sometimes to get MT4, but mine works fine. I'm not really an Autotrader, but I don't doubt that EA's would work just fine because all of my other Meta code works the same way. The power and edge Linux has over Win is the virtual desktops. To me this is a crucial feature for traders. The virtual desktops can be a substitute for multiple monitors.

Of course you want a speedy computer with as much RAM as you can muster. I've had MT4 wtih Linux run on older computers, but it is sluggish. It works, but sluggish. As you can see from my snapshots on my blog, I also use an Android tablet, and can remotely and securely access my MT4 desktop on Linux.

I'm also running Thinkorswim on Ubuntu too if I do any options trading. My old blogger account isn't working too well, but I restored and created a new blog. That link is on my signature.

Hi Seaducer67,

Thanks for your feedback. I did try run MT4 on ubuntu previous versions, 11.04 and 11.10 last year, but doesn't going on well because of the unity problem. Your snapshots makes me think again about reinstall ubuntu.

Will check out your blog regularly.

As I mentioned in the previous post, perhaps there are some traders who still need to view a desktop application. I never believed Ipads and Android tablets would be a clear replacement for our desktop computers. It's not fair to compare the two, they both have their great, and not so great features. It would be like comparing a screwdriver to a wrench. At certain times and situations, one will have it's advantages over the other. So whatever that time may be, just go with what works best. Use the tool, and appreciate and enjoy the technology.

I have a short clip of the connection on my blog. Point at my ID and visit my website blog. I don't wanna break forum rules by posting the link. I just want to show some traders that there are sometimes alternatives to just using Apps. For me I traded a laptop to get a Tablet, this is a way to use a remote connection (with security) to utilize some features my laptop on my tablet. Still no regrets I got rid of my laptop.

i use a htc flyer 7" tablet on android for mobile trading through an Andriod Metatrader4 app. Works fine and supports all mt4 servers. you can save several logins to switch from accounts. No windows OS needed.

there were other Apps for mobile trading that were far better than the metaquotes release but after the new Build419 and protocol change, these apps no longer work.

Of course you'll need remote desktop app to your vps or home pc to access your EAs etc, but android is perfect for mobile trading.

It is good to have a vps, if you are trading with MT4.
If you are having vps, then try mtrRemote app for android.

You can share WiFi signal from your iphone. The win8 tablet works very well. I use MT4 in my Acer w510. Works perfectly.
You don't need keyboard and mouse anymore and can take it with you to trade anywhere.
