tried search, but nothing came up. just want to know what others are using.

most ppl use mt4 charts i myself use trade interceptor the plaform is free with a demo and it can be used with android based mobile phones which is why i use it

gonna have to play around with this stuff on the weekend, but i feel like an idiot for paying the past few years for charts. this seems better and it's free

im pretty sure there live account is free to as long as you use one of the brokers i think fxcm gft and a couple of others and tell them you nominate riflexo something or other as your introducing broker..

a least you know they won be manipulaing the platform as they have no reason to

And after a while you will probably realise that MT4 is crap and that you need to pay for a decent platform to take your trading to the next level. The reason that MT4 is so popular is mainly because it is free ... how many people do you actually know who have been successful in creating a business relying on free stuff ?

First of all .... MT4 is slooooow. It can be manipulated by the broker (is actually build for that). There is a lot of common chart types missing - I like line break and different range bar charts. There is no chart trading or ATM available as default. Of course you can add this with scripts and EA's but that would make it even more slow. It is not great for a multi monitor set-up - I want to be able to take any of my charts and place anywhere I want to ....
There is probably more reasons not to use MT4

The meta trader platforms are not free, for a broker to buy a platform costs 100k and there's support cost of 1500 a month, upgrading from mt4 to mt5 alone is 50k. It is only that the brokers make money off the clients trading that they provide the platform's cost inbuilt in the trading costs.

I think the reason MT4 is so popular (and why all brokers have decided to offer it without it's own fee) is that it is so customizable and it's code software allows people to make their own indicators, scripts and eas.

As far as charting goes, and I haven't looked into this myself, what on earth could paid for charting platforms do for a trader that mt4 can't?

Of course the MT4 is not free of charge for the broker - I was talking about the traders. For any serious platform you are able to buy, lease or code your own indicators or strategies.
Don't you think there is a reason why the brokers are able to offer this platform to the traders completely free of charge ?

well i'm paying for charts that are messed up. can't exactly create a business relying on things that don't work.

interceptor looks decent. i havent used mt4 much, seems pretty clunky to me. which is why i'm asking what charts others are using.

For Forex I use TradeSignal, a German company. Very attractive, very versatile, easy to use. Customizable if you're into that kind of stuff. They're around $85/mo including NY Stock data and free Forex, not including Futures. It's stand-alone, meaning they provide independent data and you can't link your platform through the charts unless you're with Interactive Brokers. For me that doesn't matter.

I have a Futures account with TradeStation, but they also offer Forex. I think their charting is easier to use than MetaTrader but not as much as TradeSignal. They charge $100/mo for the platform, but give it free if you generate enough in commission.

A lot of people use eSignal but I don't have any experience with them. There are several others up around $500/mo, probably higher, but I don't remember the company names.
