Used strategy tester, with appalling data quality, to work out best guesses at TPs and SLs.

M1 - no direction filters, trading hours 6am-5pm UK time, TP=10, SL=12
35 Wins, 25 Losses +50 pips
=> trades frequently, marginally profitable. Good for criminals with rebates.

M15 - no direction filters, trading hours 6am-5pm UK time, TP=10, SL=26
3 Wins, 0 Losses +30 pips
=> trades infrequently, lots of errors (128 - trade timeout). Don't know why M15 should have so many errors and M1 doesn't....?

Anyone else still testing this?

The tester is useless for results. The data is missing huge files and has all sorts of error in it. It's a disaster.
The tester can be used to see if an ea is opening and closing properly that's about it, as far as I can see.
There is some 99% correct data, commercial quality, at Dukascopy. It's free but it's a pain in "the you know what" to try to download. I've downloaded and have converted it to csv but no luck so far.
the upgrades in mt4 seem to block it.

Yeah I know. Just used the strategy tester to get some idea of optimal TP and SL. The results are forward demo tests.
Making some progress in getting the Dukascopy 99% tick data..
Maybe today I can get to run the ea on some decent data...

Good filter will be to take only one short and long for a particular session and close shop. We should know by then it is ranging
Perhaps the trend "filter" of the nanningbob 10.0 method could help?
I can't seem to get the 99% tick data to run properly.
Working on it for a week now off and on.
There have been so many upgrades to mt4 it may be interfering with converting the data.

Try testing only on Alpari NZ terminal. Data is complete and comes from their server and not Metaquotes. I've seen comparison backtests between
this and 99% quality tick data and they were very similar.

Download their MT4 platform, just like you would with Alpari UK/US, etc. Make sure you clean out all .hst file/existing data, before downloading data. Be certain you are downloading only M1 data, also.

After you run a backtest, you should have no data gaps and no mismatched chart errors.
