Saving data?? (FxPro v Oanda)

I have an indi that saves data from the chart to a file (.csv or .dat).

This works perfectly for me using Oanda but my mate who wanted the indi is using FxPro and he says that he cannot find the file anywhere??

Does FxPro prevent creating files?
Or where would file be (it does not appear in the experts/files folder)?

What is the correct syntax for defineing the full path for the file?

Think of the problem in slightly different terms. Think of XP vs Vista or Windows 7. I am sure that the EA works as it should and the file is there. But unless you install MT4 in the proper directory, it is difficult to see files in Windows Explorer. There are several excellent threads on the subject, but I can't find them at the moment. Try searching for Vista.

We are both using Win 7.

His is on C: Drive mine on different drive.

Will try the search.

I also have W7 and use a script to write a .csv file. I find that all of the permissions can cause problems with writing files (I understand that it is due to the fact that I am writing to a program file...) So, before I write anything, I start up MT4(FXPRO) in administrator mode. Perhaps your friend could try this....

This is a well known shortcoming of MT4 on Vista and Windows 7.


Windows no longer allows MT4 to write to the default program folders that MT4 is programmed to use.

Simplest is to re-install MT4 outside of the default C:\Program Files\ folder and things will start to work as they should. e.g. create a folder like C:\MyPrograms\ and install MT4 there.
