Hi Bob. What are your thoughts on currency choices? Do you try and have a balanced portfolio of currencies, or would you prefer just choosing the least volatile currencies. I notice in the top 12 volatility list eur and gbp are featured once, yet nzd and aud are featured 4 times and jpy 5 times.

Here is 1H testing CTR EA, 25 +10MPTM, and template. You can add levels but at present I am going to reenter using 10.0. So this is only 1L trading. It trades off of the 1H chart but you can also see the 4H CTR and 10.0 Daily in the template. So far in 12 hours it has taken 4 profits.

For range trading I am only going to use low volatility on the 1H. I may add if I go to 4H range trading but I have not set up the testing for that. Right now I am happy with the roughly 2% return on the EA. I finally zeroed out the EUR/CHF trades I had and then deleted that pair from my live trading. I am 3L deep on the aud/nzd and gbp/cad. I got out of my first gbp/cad 3L trade and now I have another one. Maybe rethink that pair.

Well, it has been exactly 4 weeks since I start trading the 10.0 range trading. My return has been 9% which is 2.25% a week average. So here is my 1 month return on my live account. DD has been low and well within safety limits. I have increased my lot sizes from .02 to .03 so we will see if that boosts the return a little bit. You can trade small safe amounts of money and get a nice return in Forex.

Here is my 4 week results. Up 14.2%. 50 pip hard TP. DD maxed out at about 25% but averages about 10% now that I have 500:1 leverage. I started with 12 least volatile pairs for about a week, then rebalanced my portfolio back to 8 pairs. After I did this, I only managed 4.5% for the last 3 weeks. I think I might just go back to the 12 least volatile pairs again. Still undecided... The markets have trended a bit the last 3 weeks.

I have pretty much kept my DD to between 4-7%. When the gbp/cad and eur/chf were running hard I reached to just above 10% DD. So depending on how much risk and volatility you want affects your return. Higher return, higher risk. Goes with the territory.

I just noticed after a quick back test of the ctr ea, that it will close the trade at the touch of opposite BB or the TP whichever comes first. This may be a problem if someone wants a TP greater then the opposite BB

It is not a problem it is a trader's decision. BB work very well when price is ranging, you would have to know what fundamentals are moving the market outside of its range. Whether you use lines or BB bands ranging market trading always has the same issue. When price moves out of range what do you do??? I choose to countertrade the less volatile currencies. I stand the best chance of consistently keeping things under control.

I think the ctr both ea would work excellent on the 4h chart as a range trading ea. The opposite BB seems like a very accurate TP. I noticed much fewer trades then the 50x150 ea but DD was very minimal. A lot less noise on the 4h chart as well. Maybe the ctr both ea on the 4h would be better then 50x150 on the 1h. Time will tell

I had a nice run of pips the last few days on the 50x150 ea

If you play the right currencies any range EA will work. CTR is having some very dynamic results. I want to run it one more week before publishing it in a final form. The advantage of it may be it can be run on more currency pairs. Below is a pic of the trades on the eur/chf using CTR as a buy and sell this week on a 1H chart.

However, the 50x150 is doing quite well. GBP/CAD reversed and I walked away with a profit on the entire series of trades.

Here is a spike trade on the cad jpy. CTR picked up the spike well above the BB band (10)pips. Made a really nice trade.

Was the 2nd and 5th sell arrow on your eur/chf chart L2 entries or had you already taken profit?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am also using a 20+12 MPTM. So after price moves 20 pips in your favor it sets the SL at +12. Sometimes this may knock you out of a bigger profit trade but it prevents a lot of back or 2L trades. Here test it out. Included are the trades for two days on 24 test currencies. I just let it run and then closed all the losing trades during the JPY session after they retrace some. I also would take profits at times when I walked into the room. What I loved about it is most of the time it would run in the plus side. It would then take profit or I would close some trades until it went into the negative and it would work its way back into profit again. The EA works on the 1H chart. If you want to run multiple levels you can go to the D1 chart and counter trade but the thing was so successful that I just closed out the losing trades every day. HERE TEST THIS Approximately 1138 pips in two days and that was after I closed all the trades every day NO CARRYOVER.

That's awesome results. If only we could average this every 2 days So are you suggesting running on a heap of currencies. And to compensate, closing the trades every few hours if their not moving, and closing all pairs during the jpy session to avoid possible DD?

No that is what I did. We need to run it and see. I will study the results further but there isnt enough data in yet. Time for testing.

One of the reasons CTR did so well was almost all pairs are high or low touching lines right now. This makes a range EA look really really good. However, there were 8 pairs that were trending according to 10.0. 7 of them had losing trades but because they also had trades that went with the trend they still made more profit than loss except for one NZD/USD. It lost money but also had the sharpest move. So this version of CTR works very well when price is ranging or even trending if the trend move is not real real strong. I will test some more this week but it seems to me that CTR may also become my reentry EA in trend trading. Of all the different formulas I have used it seems to work best.

Starting Monday I am going to compare 50x150 with CTR trading both ways and see what happens on my 15 selected ranging pairs. I should have a good idea which one will work better during the week.

With the news of debt ceiling all week and if there is no resolution soon you probably will not want to be in the markets by the end of the week. I would start winding down trades at some point because there is no telling how the markets will react. In 2008 when the banks crashed you would figure that would be bad for the dollar but it shot up 20-50% against many currencies. If the US goes into default dont ask me how the markets will because I dont know but you probably would not want to be in them. However, I will take the crosses with the trend trades in my 10.0 system and see what happens.

2. This also could make any testing useless because you will not be reading normal market results. Anyways counter trading in a heavy super news market can be an exercise in futility. Following the trend would be very very good. Get ready for an interesting week.

Maybe we could make the ea "safer" by trading outside in instead of inside out. That way we would never catch the start of a trend. Basically the same as ea#7 in NB v5 but trading both ways. This might work well with the mptm. Especially in times like this

If price is running on a non retracement 1000 pip run you dont want to be trading outside in. You want to sit on the sidelines or run with the trend. Super news stories are nightmares for counter trading or range trading. That is when martingalers get their head handed to them on a silver platter.
