I thought low volume upthrusts into a previous high can be weakness as this shows SM not interested in higher prices, although in this case it wouldnt be weakness becasue the next bar is down but doesnt make any real effort to close below and is also low volume. Am I on the right track? Nice to see you back by the way!

It often happen to me that my stoploss is triggered. For example if there is a test and price breaks above that bar, then I open an order and set the stoploss below the local low. But often there will be a shakeout before price goes back upward. How should I handle that? Should I close only if a bar closes below the stoploss level? If I do it may be killing if we have a big down move, because of news or whatever. Or should I close normally if it breaks below the stoploss level and reenter when price breaks above the shakeout bar?

I put an example in attachement. Should I already close the trade when the next bar after a test is not an upbar?

I hope you have some advices for me.

Would anyone consider last weeks, weekly bar to be a DT ? It looks similar to the weekly bar that closed last year in the 1.28 range and quickly shot up 1200-1400 pips.

Hi dvarrin, thanks for the chart. Currently at work, but my comment ( mind you, I am still a vsa newbie ) attached.

I would have probably not taken the trade, as you are in the top of a range, maybe after the test. Best staying out of ranges for me ;-) Lets see what the experts have to say.

@ingmar. I am still learning vsa and would consider myself a beginner, I don`t have Tradeguider. This is my favourite thread and a fantastic learning experience for me.

Hi All, Just wanted to post possible senario (It is holidays in America and England so this data has elements of inaccuracy) However I am only getting started on this journey and wanted some critical advice passed on the chart and my methods.

I have outlined an upthrust after the rally and buying climax with ensuing test. Expected outcome ie downward.

I am uncertain as to how long it will take to shake out the market or for distribution to take place.

Chart is Eur/Usd 4 hr

We have a big trading range now on EURUSD M15. How should we handle tomorrow? Should we wait for a breakout first or do we simply take the bar with highest volume and look for signals appearing at the trigger level?

Take the day off when both GBP and USD are on holidays... SM doesn't trade 5 days a week every week so why should we?


Today was a bad day to trade and is not a good example to use for where to place SL... Also the bar you marked is a hidden test and these can be traded but are more risky as they are an upbar and upbars can contain hidden selling since these are what SM sells into.

On a normal day as soon as the next bar UT'd to take me in and then closed back below I would have bailed. The Hidden test failed... If the SM was buying because of the hidden test the next bar would not have been down.
Today's zone = Tomorrow's opportunity!

I thought this was going to be a shake out but it's a much wider spread up bar on ultra high volume closing off the highs. There could be selling in this bar.
