One of my favorite trades is to just trade a bounce off of a virgin POC (market profile).



You have to be awfully patient as they don't happen too frequently, but when they do it is a trade that offers great risk to reward ratios.

If you are not familiar with "market profile" google it for a full explanation.

Basically the point of control is the price where price spent the most time during a trading session. If you look at the charts I posted you will see a blue histogram representing trades for the session. The longest histogram for each session is then labeled the POC or point of control. Because more trades have taken place at this price level - it has some sort of significance - we can assume that traders are loading up at this price (which direction is not known).

A "virgin" POC is one that once developed has not been penetrated (heehee). For example the trade I took was in CAD/JPY - and yesterdays POC was 86.249. Also yesterday price dropped from 86 and never returned - making yesterdays POC a virgin POC.

I cannot do the concept justice so I suggest you google the term and read up. I originally came across the concept when I was trading treasury bonds and was amazed at how easy it was to scalp bonds when price touched the virgin POC. I grew bored with the technique as when price is trending heavily, you may not see a virgin for days or weeks.

I tried Michael Jardine's Universal method a few years back. Didn't like the whole system but did like the "virgin" part...

85.70 is an important price point for CAD/JPY. How do I know? Because it is todays POC. Is it a virgin POC? Can't tell yet, but regardless it is where the majority of todays trades took place.

Just look how price has danced around that level in the past hour.

POC is a important level to take note of. It is not a professional grade type trade unless conditions warrant such a acceptance of risk. Its like selling R2 pivot. Not a good idea unless framework is in place. Look at how Eurusd crushed the POC of 4.25.2011.

I for one don't as a rule of thumb just trade POC's - they are levels that I watch and if other things line up at the same time I will use them as guides. However, VIRGIN POC's I will trade "naked" (how else would you have me deal with a virgin) and if price does blast thru - then it is simply a losing trade. Price does not often BLAST thru a virgin POC. For me it's a low risk, high probability trade.
