Still floating, AUDJPY closed out one round (first bump up) and EURJPY closed out one round (2nd bump up). Still some dead wood to clear out though...

I saw the basket reached the TP level of 100 dollars. EA was closing all trades but three trades on EURJPY was not closed.

Look into Journal tab with the following:

That seems like a reasonable request. What default % would be good for the profit / loss levels? Extrapolating from the current settings it would got to 2% profit, and more reasonably the loss % to 4% loss?

I've also been evaluating how this thing is structured. Right now I have maxed out on my demo the trades at 100, with 30 on AUDUSD carrying a loss of 8.8. I'm thinking about a method to better allocate positions between the pairs so it doesn't end up with a few pairs with really large size carrying them to loss. That's really the opposite of the snow roller concept as far as I can tell. I haven't been watching Basket Stats for very long so maybe this is normal?

The EA works well on my Alpari demo. However, the basket_stats indicator is not functioning as described. It is not displaying the data - all I get is what is shown on the screenshot attached. I have placed it in expertsindicators folder

Can you please guide me on correcting this.

I'll have another look at the code. It may not be a serious problem but perhaps there is a way to ensure a full closeout.

Hey Nicastro,

Are you using the same MagicNumber in Basket_Stats as you are using in SnowRoller? The default for both should be zero. The MagicNumbers have to be the same in order for the basket_stats indicator to find the trades / symbols and report them.

I just posted an update to the SnowRoller.mq4 file that changes the CloseAll, and CloseThis settings to percent with defaults of 2.0% for profit taking and 4.0% for loss taking.

This is what is of concern to me. Note the out-sized position on AUDUSD and how this one position is offsetting just about every other pair's profit. This isn't what Snow Roller is supposed to be about. It should be doing this in reverse with profits, instead of losses. I'm going to have to think about how to make sure that profitable pairs are rewarded by allowing larger sizes and unprofitable pairs are penalized by reducing their size.

O PnL = Open Profit and Loss
C PnL = Closed Profit and Loss
Lots and Trades relate to open positions.

I just uploaded a new version. If you've already downloaded SnowRoller, Please download this version so we are all on the same page. (see link in signature)

Changes:
Everything should now be normalized in pips no matter what your broker is like (4 digit, 5 digit).

The CloseAll and CloseThis have been reworked to be in percent.

Commented out the parameters a bit more clearly with descriptions separating the sections. It should seem more logical.

Additionally I implemented a routine that *should* (untested) gradually close out the worst performing symbol that has over 5 trades (rather than allow it to keep adding losing trades as the old version does). This should help speed up chopping down the symbols that are a drag on performance.

Thanks for the link. I uploaded this EA an hor back. Hope the recent changes have already been taken care. The EA already started trading with lot 0.1.

Hey FXEZ,

I was just amazed when I saw someone adopting the snowball trading style. I am in Forex now for 5 years, and finally I am successful trading manually according to this method.

I have always struggled for myself to find the key to countertrade a pair. Here you seem to do so, too. Your very much open positions on the AUDUSD tell so.

Despite I am not a programmer, I had many thoughts about an EA this far. I scale in a trade in a similar way you do with the snow roller. But I use an indicator that is mostly laughed on by people. This indicator is the 3x semafor. I have very much success on the M5 or M15 if I do the following :

Whenever a level 3 semafor pops up, I wait until the next candle that opens lower than the one showing the semafor. As this indi repaints, it can happen that the semafor is shifted a few times to a new candle ... and then I scale in again. But by experimenting with the semafor settings and a crude money management I finally have a lot of success.

If one, or you, maybe can modify the snow roller EA to picking trades every time giving the rules I gave here roughly, I would be very glad to contribute my further thoughts ...

Now if I see a pair that is in profit and I want to close out that pair, can I merely close out all positions in that pair or will that cause some issues?

Or do you anticipate closing the basket all at once?

Thanks for this contribution. If no one can help, then you can use snowball to automatically enter your positions when you choose. I will experiment with the semafor indi.

nice to hear that you want to experiment with the semafor. What I do mostly with the snowball EA at the moment is to fire it up in BOTH ways (trading bidirectional settings) on London open at 09:00 / GMT+1. Settings are 0.1 lots at a 8 or 10 pips range, so very tight here. Levels are 3-6, depends on pair. If market doesn't move enough, I quit and take a few losses that do not really bother me. And boy, that works. Even Steve Hopwood is having thoughts in this direction at the moment with his ACD / Mark Fisher adaption, where he came to the clue that we'd simply shouldn't complicate things but just shoot for it

With the updated EA,

----lotsize: 1 will be the minimum lot size for any broker----

If i want to use 1.0 lot for every account balance of 100,000 what should i put? 10? 1.0?

I'm not making sense here but ... ... anyone thought of an appropriate size for balance of 100K?

Forgot to leave one more brainfart Just take the M5 or M15 and the semafor indi with 36/60/156 settings. On level 3 that is the initial signal to get your eyes on (has a useful sound and box alert). Then watch out for 1 or better 2 candles that open or close lower than the candle with the semafor. Or use RSI / stoch at 80/20 - whatever. Just to tighten the feeling the market reverses and to cut out too much whipsaws for the snowball in advance. Then start the Snowball in countertrade mode, with 15 pips range or whatever you are feeling, needs experimenting with pairs and settings here. You just shouldn't be twisted into SL that much. Let go. Enjoy.

Interesting. I will try on NY open. It would be nice to see an option added to trade on certain hours. Thanks for this. And I will update you on my findings.

Correct me if I am wrong but it sounds like you have two strategies. One for the open and one for semafors?
