found ERROR: in the MJStochastic MJMovingAverage indi I attached: I think you get an error if you try to set the TF to one month (did not test that before - so you know why such testing is important.)


I attach the corrected test indis: SORRY.

So was I suppose to be testing that instead of the one that I was using as indicated in the picture that I posted...and also I've never used mtf moving averages.so I may need to look into that though I may not use it as it may complicate my method and what I look for but as far as the vlines go I think that does take away the need for the write to files but that's just my opinion...

The only think why it might still be helpful is: one can maybe more easily spot how many alerts on a particular time span was: just look at the start row and row of that day in excel or so.

Not sure either.


BTW: did the UniquePrefix answer help for your multiple alerts applied to one chart?

1. Motivation

In MT 4, only those bars are drawn, within which at least one price change took place. If no price change occurred within a minute, a one-bar gap will occur in the chart with one-minute period.


The developers have deliberately chosen this way of charts drawing since the most traders that use their product prefer charts, which contain only existing prices. Nevertheless, there are users who like continuous charts. They prefer the bar to be drawn if even its open price is equal to the close price of the preceding bar. Thus, there will be no gaps in the time scale of the chart, and 100 bars will always correspond with 100 minutes in the one-minute chart. These data can be different in the current realization. For example, 100 minutes can "fit" in 98 bars if there were 2 minutes among them when no quotes had income.

Hi guys,

I was writing something together and thought I might post it also.

ACTION (TASKS/CHECKS) FOR STOCHASTIC:

FIRST: Important point of understanding:

I do not follow strictly what one would do looking at multiple charts with different Time Periods. (e.g. what Spud mostly did)

e.g. to explain this:
What does it mean a line (Stoch/MA) points in a direction: e.g. UP:
simple said: if the current stoch is higher than the previous stoch.

The issue I want to point to is: What do I (we) understand by PREVIOUS in a MTF setup.

If one trades of the M1 and looks at multiple charts:

On the main M1 Chart: previous would mean 1 minute ago. (or previous M1 bar.

Than he looks at the other charts.

On a Daily chart: previous would mean the previous day.
On a M15 chart: previous would mean the bar before: 15 minutes before
On a M5 chart previous would mean 5minutes ago.


I on the other hand follow a different line:
I follow the point that one has applied different MTF indicators to ONE chart.

And now has all the MTF info on this single chart. A reason why many prefer MTF indies than 5 charts.
A trader looking at that single chart will base his decisions usually a bit differently.

e.g. let's say a MTF indi trader has applied to a M1 chart:

MTF STOCH TF: D1
MTF STOCH TF: M15
MTF STOCH TF: M5

The trader looking at such a chart bases his decision surely not by scrolling backwards a whole day (1440 M1 bars: and than makes his decision on the difference to the current live M1 candle.)
Probably not even counting 15 bars back for M15.


For such a setup: previous would mean for most: 1 Chart bar ago (in this case M1). And that applies to all MTF indies D1 , M15, M5: Previous means on a M1 chart 1 Minute bar ago, no matter what MTF period is applied.
On the other hand if one changes the chart period to M5: previous would mean 1 M5 bar ago. And that applies to all MTF indies D1 , M15, M5

Mostly a trader looks at the chart with a kind of Vertical Line mind: just go through any forum where they post charts with MTF- indis applied. Mostly there is a Vline and than some explanation why this was all supporting such and such case. It's quite a different approach than a strictly Multiple charts approach.

Also some other issues: like Past data will often be readjusted (which by Multiple charts does never happen for closed candles. ) but in MTF indi charts it happens even for the previous Closed chart bar.


But the argument goes: That's why one uses MTF- indicators to have the info on one chart and not on many with all the bars starting point at different times.

What is right or wrong: None – it is just a bit of a different approach. Does it ALWAYS produce the same results: I don't know.


SO: one more reason to really make sure the MTF indis are working correctly

Hi, there is one more homework for you guys.

Probably something which is of more interest to you (still the other is probably more important).

I have started to write together some suggested Action/Task/Checkups we might like to include.

I hope I did not do to many mistakes ( good that you guys are thinking here with me

Have a look at the attached pdf ( I aslo add a .doc but not sure if it opens as I use Openoffice on Linux.

Anyway, if you read a bit through the suggestion you will get the idea I thought how to do it.

Your task will be: maybe you could come up with something in a similar style we could/should (you wish) to include.

I won't promise that all will be included but suggestions are open. (try to explain a bit what it should do: how is the situation for (LONG/SHORT)
What could be possible outcomes (in relation to long/short) A bit like I did.

Don't include just anything so that you can add to the list: but think what you would like to really use.

OK MJ so I have been playing with the moving averages indicator that you posted and I love it...its like a strategy in itself...I won't put the details of that in here...for that I shall pm you so you can see what I am talking about but I love it so far...As much as I am into MTF I am surprised I never used something like this before but I tried the unique ID and it didnt work but I guess it doesn't make a difference since all I have to do is basically refresh the chart to get everything back and on the same page so its ok...so far with what I have cpu seems to be running fine...

related to your PM. In the pic below you can see I did once a Direction coloured Stoch (similar to MA) But this all was on MT5 testing.

This was not MTF but normal stoch colored: I guess 100,3,3 and a 14,3,3 or something similar.

hi guys,

Probably you know but in case you don't.
if you use the WriteToFile ( or even the Vlines ( if you open the Object list) Alerts have always written the orig Time in the message (or Vline properties.

You can simple copy/past them into the left bottom corner of a chart (see below) and enter and you go straight there.

One can also enter a new Pair symbol and change an existing chart like that: for fast testing I do that at times than having 30 charts open.

Probably you knew - still helpful.

Dont feel much like a living person today(drinking too much again; copple of nice frensh bottols of Margeaux..).

Not sure if I can handle life candles yet but I will try; defenately no trading today..

Very Good point: in one of my customary systems I did more or less such thing

Yes, exactly! This would solve all problems as on can customize some settings for Stoch1_OrderStoch2. Lets say if you have an option for comparison and than can select '>' or '<' by selecting False or True

Than do Stoch1_OrderStoch3 and Stoch2_OrderStoch3: you can make any criteria you want(Because you already defined the min/max value for long/short before in the Stochastics line)!

If you create 5 Stochs you would than have to add:

Stoch1_OrderStoch4 Stoch2_OrderStoch4 Stoch3_OrderStoch4;

Stoch1_OrderStoch5 Stoch2_OrderStoch5 Stoch3_OrderStoch5 Stoch4_OrderStoch5

If you can make the Alerter than check all criteria you have all flexibility in the world!

Always difficult this evaluation..

I think you covered very well by the option of checking only closed Candle or new Candle. If it keeps checking the situation(witch I assume) from lower to higher TF when the lowest TF changes Candle: you have the Spud scenario's.
Realtime checks is what I prefer and, again, I think you covered very well in the first PDF!

NO they are not compatible - but many exist already for MT5. Anyway - I do not think we should - because most people who use MT platform for trading use MT4. I don't mind as I do not trade on MT platform use the brokers own Java one.

So, basically if it works out on MT4 - it's nice - else we just skip it.
