Well I'm realizing some future is the same as some Forex Pair; so Future EUR would be EUR/USD etc.. You want me to write down all of them?
I can only play currencies against the Dollar(All futures are related to the USD)!

If I attach the alerter to all 5min charts its not that important anyway..

Not sure maybe I do it all automatically for any pair but probably not.

That's why you will see in my old posts with the automated trading system that I really only forward tested. (But of course a general backtest is what most of us do when we scroll through past setups ideas.

ALERT simple manual backtest helper functionality.

I do not plan to do much on it: like writing files and so ( I did that in the past but I don't think it is the real purpose of this alerter).

But what I plan is to do this:

If you close MT54 it writes a log file into: experts/logs.

So what I plan is to have an option to also trigger past alerts and with something like this:

Attached: 20110323.log (renamed to 20110323.csv)

one could for instance import that into Excel with a delimiter: | and have a couple of rows.

e.g Important part highlighted.

19:30:20 TEST__ALERT_v1 EURUSD,M1: Alert: TEST_ALERT (1,2,3) | 2011.03.23 02:51 | EURUSD | Direction: < DOWN >

19:30:20 TEST__ALERT_v1 EURUSD,M1: Alert: TEST_ALERT (1,2,3) | 2011.03.23 02:52 | EURUSD | Direction: < UP >


The time of the Event one can copy than and past it into the chart window to go directly to the time so see what was the situation in the past.

This helps to easily spot a couple of helpful things:

1. How many Events happen usually per day, week
2. go with past copy there to inspect this manually and decide which action one would have taken.

For past data I do not plan more - but this simple log can be still very useful.

You mean you can replay some situation and attatch the Alerter on the sitaution to produce the results like they were when you were watching real time?

No not exactingly: I don't think you can use that on the strategy tester as you would need an EA: but I'm not a profi about this.

'But what it does: it does the checks with the current past data. e.g if you use the Closed candles than it should be more or less. but as you know Live Tick candles are a bit different. But still a useful tool I believe.

Or just imagine something like that:
you scrolling through 1 year past data to check all the occurrences when the 3 color bars have the same color.
Well, here you should be able (if the Pc does not freeze - happend to me when I scanned something similar quite a while back on MT5 - but might be also my poor programming style

Anyway: if all goes well you should get a file with all occurrences of this past data - I had something similar on MT5 which was more advanced with more output like Limiting the time period to scan, possible to set TP, SL and calculated some statistics of success (probably it would have been better to make a EA for that) etc- etc. but this would be something different and not the tool we are really looking for.

I did change my mind and implemented already a proper separate file writer: as in the log files there might be other messages from the MT4 client.

Sounds amazing realy.. In this case the scan for closed candles could be of great value for evaluation!

This OsMA, I think it can be of great value from what I've seen so far..

Great to combine this signals on divergence from stochastics as well..

I'm reading all the progress each and everyday and awaiting anxiously...I'm still working on some charting things but not so good with the technical aspects of testing indicators and the things as intensely as you and MJ...so I will let you guys keep up the good work and contribute with anything else you guys may need or any info...thanks...

confirmations in the way that I was using it for momentum and trend lines and everything or confirmation in the sense of divergence...which are you referring to...???

Strong for reversals in combiantion with divergenge from stochastics etc..

These slow settings (26,12,9) seem to perfictly fit to my Stochastics(5,1,3) settings regarding reversals!

Crossings from MACD(OsMA is 0.00) can also give nice supportive signals..

I think its a gift from the Lord himself $$

That's perfectly ok - luckily not everyone has the same type of personality.

As much as I know you are the only one of us three who has the additional responsibility of a day job.

About the alerter:
I said it already to 'despichtt' too. Don't get too excited about all of this.
Of course it can be a helpful extra ( I guess especially for you because of the time difference you have ).

Also keeping track of many pairs might be an advantage: as one can be more picky and still have a reasonable amount of trades.

BUT I seriously do not believe that we will find some magical completely new complex settings.

In the end I guess what the previous poster 'anthoniex' has in the signature: Simply Basic! might be still the way to go. Nevertheless we will try to make it complex enough so that it can be useful for more people.

I wrote for you guys some basic stuff together. Probably not always clear enough as I have the things in my mind and mostly know what I mean

Anyway, this is not a final version I might still change one or the other - but it is a good and IMPORTANT intro to the general alerter functionality / ideas behind to get familiar with.

This refers only to the actual Alerter functionality and not to what condition input triggers an alert.

BTW: I do not write all this warranty and warnings stuff others do sometimes: if you loose your money because you did not check any stuff works correctly - tough for you. One has not to be a programmer to check the basic functionality of an indicator. Mostly we can just take time to watch the chart (maybe compare with some other existing once). For instance it is often hard to read the code of other people everyone has his own way and mind to do thing: but I often just watch the chart and what an indi is doing - and that I do something similar my way: like the interpolation on the UStochastic I posted in Spuds thread. Watched the chart, thought about it - did it my way - seems to be ok and corresponds with the original.

So, no need to go on: its your money - make sure as good as you can any thing you use for trading works at least to a high degree of satisfaction.

I was just wondering would it be possible to have the mtf multi directional alerter with the same settings that you have but in the form of just an arrow on the chart itself and no seperate window for it and everything...

I was also thinking about that. Possible it is but I'm not sure if we really want that.

e.g. you want to check the direction of a Stoch/MA but only be alerted at the first direction change.

The extra indicator window allows us to plot UP bars for the whole time the Stoch/Ma points which is a nice visual addition for some.

If you have it on the main charts it gets a bit messy. At the moment I tend towards separate bars but it is not finally.


On the other side if you edit your templates manually (text editor) you can easily adjust the hight of those indicator windows in relation to each other)



But I'm also not sure yet. Just thought a bit about it.

Hi MJ!

Very good thinking in the what_when_AlerterOption! I never thougth about this; its very nice you have done more of this so you know a lot of this very pratical issues you're facing that migth couse problems if not adressed properly. Very clear as well this options 0/1 to me..

I would not in general recommend having WriteToFile enabled: as it might
additionally slow down the chart: especially if you have also the next option enabled and many bars..

Don't worry: I still have the fastest retail processor out there! Heavely stuffed with superfast RAM as well! I didnt do much scanning in the past but when I build my system I knew this could well change in future so I invested heavely in speed! I also run other charting software with datafeed from my brooker so I wont get surprised by anything..

For me WriteToFile is a nice extra feature for manual kind of back-checking theoretical past events.

Sounds good as well! I'm not quite sure if I'm understanding all technicals behind here as this writing to files is quite new sbject to me but it would be of great vulue to watch all recorded signals!
