I have been changing from system to system till i got bored...tried the craig harris method for a while but stopped after series of losses when i first started my fx endeavour...now i'm back and i'm sure that i will stick to this trading method forever..wish me luck...anyways guys..whoever that is trading using the method...please let me know do you have skype group or something so we can trade together...

Chewz - I use 5-8openEMA_Cross_arrow_with_Alerts from Forex Factory. Add a second moving average set to 7, 0 shift, simple and close. You get an arrow when the 5ema and 7 MA cross, and get sound alert popup and email if you want.

I am looking for what others have come up with for the best indicator alert to follow the 5EMA System. I am not looking for it to make decisions for me only to give me a heads up. I started this in the Skype discussion, but thought it best to bring it here.

HA Alert
There was an HA Alert put in that in the inputs has a risk factor that can be changed. This looks like a lot of alerts. Is there one listed somewhere here that alerts on a color change, particularly at the close of a candle? I just haven't found one or haven't looked in the right place.

This one has many different alerts. Has someone found settings that are appropriate for all currencies? If not, I would be interested in the one that is for the EU and GU.

Time Frame
What shorter time frame have you found to be the best both in trending and choppy markets.

Later, the Group of Seven (G7) dumped yen and purchased U.S. dollars. It's the first time the G7 jointly intervened in the currency market in 11 years, though it only sold some 2 trillion yen ($25 billion). A weakening yen helps Japanese exports – a cornerstone of the Japanese economy.

The government selling successfully pushed the yen lower, though it recovered in midday trading… The dollar jumped to 82 yen (¥) in Asian trade and fell to ¥81.11 in afternoon New York trade (still above yesterday's close, a postwar high of ¥76.25).

The G7 is showing it won't tolerate a rapid surge in the yen… And it's forcing speculators to rethink their bullish yen positions. Speculators are betting the yen will appreciate as companies buy yen to repair Japan.

For me one of the main attributes of the Big E 5 method is its simplicity. The rules are simple and straightforward. The charts that Big E posts and the indicators and templates he uses and has posted here for our use are also simple and straightforward. Even so, like many others, I keep trying to reinvent the wheel. I keep thinking more indicators are needed to help insure decisions I contemplate are "right". In the back of my mind I keep thinking that it really can't be this simple (but not easy), so I keep making it more complex. However, when I really look at the charts and what they are trying to tell me, the only things that need to be on the charts are those that Big E has provided for our use.

For me, the real heart of the simple approach that Big E has provided is the Traders Dynamic Index (TDI). As he says, it is on EVERY chart he uses. The difficulty I have been having is "seeing" opportunites on as many pairs and timeframes that in theory I have the ability to follow. I am fortunate to have several monitors and can follow the 6 - 8 pair that Big E follows and on at least 2 - 3 timeframes simultaneously. However, my tired old eyes and, frankly, my brain cannot keep up with that much visual information.

Like many others here and in the chat room I have been searching for a method of alerting opportunities as they emerge on the charts. Helpful participants have posted various approaches and indicators that feature alerts. Some include ema cross alerts, HA candle color change alerts, pivot alerts, and on and on. Going back to my point regarding what is really the heart of this trading method, I have been searching for something that would alert for critical transition points on the TDI. For me these critcal points are:

1. Green over or under red.
2. Green over or under yellow.
3. Green over or under 50.
4. Green over either upper or lower blue.

I have found an indicator that will alert when each of these conditions (and others) becomes true and it is posted below. I think I obtained it on Forex Factory, but it was a few weeks ago and am not sure of this. A Gooogle search would allow those interested in getting the detailed instructions.

Load the indicator on MT4 (not sure it is usable on anything else) and scroll down to find Alert 0 through Alert 9. The variables and format are:

Y: the yellow line
G: the green line
R: the red line
U: the upper line (blue)
L: the lower line (blue)
a number between 0 and 100

The condition for an alert can be any of:
Item 1 > Item 2
Item 1 < Item 2
Item 1 >= Item 2
Item 1 <= Item 2

You can set up to 10 independent operating alerts. An example alert to demonstrate format is:

G>R,G>R where the characters before the comma tell the indicator what condition to display when an alert is triggered, followed always by a comma, followed by what condition the indicator is to look for.

So in this case G>R,G>R the indicator will look for the condition Green line over Red line; the popup display will show "TDI:Symbol:Timeframe:G>R" when that condition is met. The indicator will automatically adjust to any timeframe, and can include an audio alert, popup alert, and email alert (which in Metatrader can be sent to a cell phone with certain providers).

My settings for the indicator are as follows, as they follow what Big E has suggested are important:

G>R green line over red line
G<R green line under red line
G>Y green line over yellow line
G<Y green line under yellow line
G>U green line over upper blue line
G<L green line under lower blue line
G>50 green line over 50 line
G<50 green line under 50 line

I am alerted when Green crosses Red in either direction; when Green crosses Yellow in either direction; Green crosses either the Upper or Lower Blue line; or when Green crosses the 50 line in either direction. I think I have the bases covered!!! I use audio and popup alerts but have chosen not to use the email alert function

I had a very detailed look at Craig Harris and his method.... I have to say, after having a detailed look at how eelfranz approaches the market, he's system has much more substance.

michaelwen - don't know how to backtest. Suggest you wait until the market opens and then compare what the indicator alerts you to and what you see on the charts. It is not perfect - sometimes the alert is not what is happening on the charts and sometimes it alerts when a condtion is not true, but these false alerts are few and far between. Much better than not having a TDI alert mechanism. If there are any MT4 programmers that would take a look at the code and see if it can be improved that would ge great.

Thanks John. since the Big E said the Number 1 rule for the 5 Method is HA bar cross the 5MA and close it . ( HA_signal_1.EX4 . page 262 #3925) , and the Number 2 rule is green line of TDI position compare with red, 50 line. ( TDI alerts.mq4 265 #3974) . if someone can combine those two indicators in to one with alert. should be super...

With TDI alerts I have settings for green above or below red and above or below 50. The alerts trigger 90% of the time just following the close oj a candle. When I look at the charts as the result of an alert because, lets say for example, green crosses red up due to a just compled candle, the HA candle has changed color. So, for me, I don't really need the addtional indicator for HA canging color.
