Whatfx is not negative but critical thinking: the only way to prove the effectiveness of a method is to announce its trades in advance or when you take a position but not afterwards as is usually the case.

Hi All

there seems to be some doubts over the validity of this method.

To test it out, i created a simple EA that follows the rules exactly, including the trailing etc. just to see how it did;

On the lower TF's it got chopped to bits and posted massive losses, on the higher TF's it faired a LOT better, although it appears if the TF is too high then the results are worse again.

I tested this on 2010, and the best return by far was on H1 timeframe, with a risk management total setting of 2% it turned 10,000 USD into 17,852 USD

Not brilliant admittedly however 75% return is not to be taken lightly.

I have attached the EA so you can run your own tests, and I believe that after running them the "original" method performs very well.

I didnt fined in the EA the rule of checking a Higher tf ma's.
Did you egnore that?
Maybe it will change results?

It seems that the EA is waitig to the CCI cross 90 or -90, after the price cross HH/LL. My opinion is when price cross HH/LL and CCI above or below 90 (-90) it is valid, if it is not happend at the same time no deal at all.

The EA need a possibility of trade time, like start hour and end hour.

it does check the higher TF ema's, so no I did not ignore it. As stated this follows all the rules of the original PAD method

to get round the limitations imposed on strategy tester of 1tf, it multiplies out the standard ema's to get a rough approximation

Hi FXhope

just noticed your recent edit to your post.

This EA is not meant to be used in live (it has coding specifically to stop it from running in live)

therefore it does not need such things as start time etc.

The ONLY purpose of the EA is to demonstrate that the basic principles of the PAD methodology are sound, not for actual live use.

Hi JMW1970, for your EA, It is all the time good to check what the higher TF do. I have a suggestion, If you use an tf 15min , you can add an 4th MA like 4 times( 4 x tf15 min = 1h00TF) than the slow Ma on your Tf15 ex: you work with 3 MA's ( 3,5,13)
add an 4th MA = 4 x13=52. this Ma show you what happens in the 1h00 tf. Now you can add a new rule for the EA: if the market is above... apply the rest of the decision of your EA ( in this case check if all conditions for the PAD is there and Buy and the opposite is good also.

I find that on the NanningBob's thread.. and it is good, I use often.

this is what the EA does already, as i stated in post 1285, the EA checks the higher tf (it uses the method as you described to get around the limitations of strategy tester)

Why don't you use the exact rules (higher TF) instead of using MAs on the current TF with a multiplier. An EMA9 on M5 isn't like an EMA3 on M15.

for some reason on my strategy tester it doesnt seem to work, I am not sure if this is because I am using dukascopy data patched in at runtime instead of normal mt4 history

however as the ea was only meant as a demonstration of the validility of the methodology no real harm

I see now. Yes may be your datas. Normal MT4 datas allow MTF backtesting. What can't be done in backtester is multiple pairs.

i had a loser this morning on GU at 9.15 am alpari time. 5m trade.
did anyone trade this ?

and a couple of losers yesterday.

can you please upload a pic, my Alpari UK real data feed has no entry there.

the high was 1.62901, was high before at 02:00 already, but not reach by Bid price later in the london session.

There is no such thing as alpari time.

By the way, I see only winning M5 trades today.
I found a penny today. That's +100 pips for me.

Not so many $ though^^

You should really post sceenshots, right click in MT4, save as picture "active workspace" and upload it here. There are always loosing trades and I too might be wrong. I have no idea what Alpari server time and I don't see trades that you post.

ok, so this morning at london open. first sell trade on eu, a loss. of about 30 pips.

9.05 am alpari time, and 8.05am london gmt time.

although the next buy trade would have been a winner. so thus far about break even.

The GMT8:05 at my Alpari real Datafeed , is not a Trade!!

The Rules :

EMAs must be heading down and spacing apart on 15m chart for entry.

The EMA's at the M15 Chart cross after 8:00 Candle close. before this Candle close at 8:15 there can change everything , so there was not spacing at GMT 8:05 for a trade.

may You google for the 3ema cross alert indicator, so you have an signal

Other thing for me , if you Trade longer you will be know also of the London Fake breakout, I not go at the first move after 5 min open the Market.


but anyway this was no Trade for me, hope this help

Both trades are against the trend, that's the worst you can do. By the way the first is the winner (even though against the trend). There is an uptrend on EU since january 11 or so. There was one major correction of it where you could short, all other entries since J11 should ve been long enries and especially ALL entries since february 14 (the were no valid shorts since february 14 until today)
