I've had something similar. I have all my 'close trades at' options to false - as I prefer to take profit manually - I look at a number of different factors before I take profit etc.

However, my Beastie took profit at the gold line (if it had allowed the trade to run, i'd would have been higher) AND the display say close at GREEN is true!

I thought it was a glitch so i said nothing - it COULD also be down to the atutomatic closure option being true. I am using the same setfile for all my pairs and GBPJPY has its display to 'close at white line' as true.

Could this be because of the autocalculation?

Yes. If you don't want it, turn it off.

This highlights something I intended to add to the user guide but forgot - a section about how this works was supposed to go at the end of the Inputs section. I will add this at some stage.

In the meantime:

 

  1. if you want to control Beastie's selection of the CT trade closure line:

    1. set one of the CloseTradeAtxxx inputs to true
    2. set AutoCalcTradeClosureLine to false

  2. if you do not want Beastie closing CT trades, leaving you to close them manually:

    1. set all of the CloseTradeAtxxx inputs to false
    2. set AutoCalcTradeClosureLine to false

  3. if you want to hand over CT trade closure entirely to Beastie:

    1. set all of the CloseTradeAtxxx inputs to false
    2. set AutoCalcTradeClosureLine to true

I decided to update the guide whilst I was thinking about it. The section is:

 

  1. Profitable trade exit:

     

    1. CloseTradeAtGold: closes the trade when the market reaches the gold line
    2. CloseTradeAtGreen: closes the trade when the market reaches the nearest green line
    3. CloseTradeAtMiddleWhiteLine: closes the trade when the market reaches the middle white line
    4. AutoCalcTradeClosureLine: tells Beastie to calculate the appropriate trade closure line according to the pair's volatility:as calculated by Beastie. How you set these depends on what you want Beastie to do:

  1. Beastie to take complete control of CT trade-closure:

    1. set all of the CloseTradeAtxxx inputs to false
    2. set AutoCalcTradeClosureLine to true

  1. Select the trade-closure line yourself then have Beastie close the trade when appropriate::

    1. set one of the CloseTradeAtxxx inputs to true
    2. set AutoCalcTradeClosureLine to false

  1. Take full manual control of all CT trade closure:

    1. set all of the CloseTradeAtxxx inputs to false
    2. set AutoCalcTradeClosureLine to false

I have maximum trades allowed 5 (default ) yet the bestie has currently 11 usdchf trades open and opened 3 more today, also it has opened several trades on gbusdp and usdchf very close together only 1 min apart and only 3-4 pips apart - how can this be - i have downloaded the latest version of the beastie and it is a new computer & mt4 platform so should be no issues with global settings etc??

It had opened in total 20 usdchf trades even though maximum was 5??

Hi Steve, things are looking interesting at the moment !!!! I've a load of trades open (all CT) and at their highest DD yet, the markets seem to have gone a bit crazy since yesterday. So it will be great to see how beastie handles it's recovery trades. I've every faith in it !!!

I think I'll start another Beastie next week without the Trend Trades as they have been major losers over the last two weeks.

Anyone with any similar observations from the last two weeks ?

Yep. You should see my TOB-trading live account. I think I shall be in dd until my grandchildren inherit my debts.

The Beastie trend trading has done no better this week for a much larger tp than it did in the previous two using TMA for closure.

Next week I am going to try using it as a scalper in the direction of the trend, as Bob intended; describing it as a 'trend' trader is misleading. If this works, great; if not then it is time to thing again about whether to carry on with it.

I am looking at the code and see another possible tweak. It is difficult to track down this fault when it does not occur on my machine.

Please visually check the following, for the trend trading side of Beastie. See attached picture.


Red Line = SMMA(5)
LightBlue Line = TMA
DarkBlue Lie = SMMA(240)


SELL
trend : Red Line > LightBlue Line
trigger (price cross): PA < Red Line


BUY
trend : Red Line < LightBlue Line
trigger (price cross): PA > Red Line


IF

DarkBlue Line is inside TMA Channel
use convergence filter to confirm trend direction

(only time to use the DarkBlue line)



TP (options)
tp1 : LightBlue Line
tp2 : LightBlue = Red Line
tp3 : pips from Volatility
tp4 : pips from USer


SL (options)
sl1 : Red Line
sl2 : Outer Channel Band
sl3 : pips from Volatility
sl4 : pips from User

I;ve not had bad results to be honest. I;ve been using beastie but not using it as a set and forget bot - been taking profit a.s.a.p - even at 10 pips if i feel the momentum is dying out. I have avoided the trend trades.

DOnt give up steve. We are on a good thing here. Just need to limit the DD.. perhaps another indicator to acertain when a rebound is due. I dont know.

Thanks. I understand now.

I have coded Beastie in such a way that it is not difficult to adapt the code to a different set of filters.

In a couple of weeks time, we will be clearer here about whether the trend-trading stuff as is has any kind of future. In the meantime, would you like to trade your idea manually to see if it has any legs? If it does, and the original is still failing, then I can easily make the required changes.

I'm still getting to grips with the code but I will work my way to adapt it, it's a matter of time, lots of time (n coder here) .


My final goal for scalping the trend is to help the partial close of the CT losing orders, be it an always on feature or as a recovery helper.

I will just set CloseTradeAtWhite = True because autocalc is closing every trade at Gold. Maybe it's not a glitch but before the update Beastie would close some at gold, some at green and the rest at white. The way it is at the moment, there really is no autocalc in operation on Beastie

Hi Viv, I've not had bad results as well, however the Tt's have really eaten up the profits along the way. I would have had a balance almost twice as big without them !!!

I'm going to start a new demo for next week with the Tt's turned off and see how that goes.

I agree with your observation about watching trades and intervening, I did it myself a good few times last week, i.e. I placed a manual stop every time I spotted a good move and kept on moving it as it progressed.

The thing is that these trades looked like they were not going to reach their relevant close line as they were running out of steam.

I watched several of these trades that approached their close line but reversed rapidly and headed away for hours but I took good profit ( A bird in the hand and all that !!!! )at my stop. Obviously some I watched reversed and carried on reversing until another trade was placed with a BE+ line placed which they all manage to hit eventually !!

With over 20 charts open you cannot watch all of them all of the time.

I wonder if a jumping/trailing stop as some sort of option might help, although when or where to trigger it (TMA or MA etc) I haven't a clue.

Perhaps someone more experienced might have a suggestion or two.

Ok, so I treat Beastie as a set-and-forget, but that is on demo and because I want to see how it performs when left to its own devices.

I watch my live TOB trades obsessively. Whenever a price nearly makes it to the gold line a couple of times, I close it and bank the profits; a rising market is meeting resistance; a falling one is meeting support so it pays to take notice. The market subsequently retreats far more often than it powers on through.

after 3 weeks of testing beastie on instaforex broker on 3000 usd account, it made a profit of a 203 usd , and i had a floating of -33usd 0.1 usd per pip ! Unfortunately i had to format pc and reinstall windows ...and i didnt save the brokers account number and pass! so from monday i will need to start new demo testing ...but for now its going good ..and without TT! maybe thats a good thing so i could test a new updates from the beginning.
