With all of the new application and cell phone mobile technology. what type do you use and why? cell phone technology id huge. I want to be on le beach and make the trade...yeah baby...anyway thoughts?

Many brokers offer iPhone and even iPad applications so you good to go. Hell yes, earn money when you are on the beach with beautiful women is awesome.

If you want my opinion....The more technology advances, the more I feel I am being ripped off to buy things and use things and get addicted to things that would really make no huge difference or change to my life...

I am very happy with my desktop, I upgrade it once every 2-3 years, I have a small notebook which I bought 2 years ago and having no plans to change anytime soon and I haven't purchased a new mobile phone since 2007.

I must admit I have been considering purchasing a smart phone (Galaxy S or iphone) but trading apps for these devices are limited at best. The only appealing option is using a remote desktop application to connect to my desktop which will have to be running at the time. So its only an electronic leash to my office computer to allow me to step away and have lunch or something.

However, if I really want to step away I will turn OFF the office computer and then that fancy new cell phone is just that...a phone.

Hmmm I may have to think this through a bit more.

Agree with Nader,
I have a 6yrs old laptop for trading. Was state of the art when I bought it, after 6 yrs still perfect for trading. Will get a new one in the following month but only because I think it's good to have a backup computer set-up.

although I use my android phone for trading, I reckon in many cases it is better to have no access to trading on the phone: for social life purpose & no more overtrading / positions closed too early

FXDD doesn't have any app for Android yet. Nor for iphone iOS
As far as I know, at this moment only FXCM and Oanda have trading apps running on Android.
But more will be available soon, since Android is more and more popular.
There are others, but I've found Oanda has the best user interface.

As for the topic question, both as they compliment each other. A desktop can't be beaten as a proper trading solution, and a smartphone can handle tactical decisions while out and about. I can only speak for slower intraday and longer timeframes though.
i bought a cheaper phone to manage my trades when i am at work and nothing else
i dont like to get into a position on my phone, however i do sometimes

its more like a safety stoploss, if i am at work and the market is getting eratic before news time not in my favour i will close any open position.

i got a little HTC thingy just for the peace of mind knowing i can close any position i dont like or want to get out with the profits i am happy with.

it helps alot for me as i dont get to sit at a desktop and trade like some people do, or atleast as much as i would like to sometimes.

i prefer my trading desk - because i dont like to mix my trading hours with my normal life, when i turn off my computer i dont care anymore what happens to the market and thats very important to me else i would always be checking prices , news and i dont get my rest.

The only way I'd use a phone to trade is if I'm calling my broker.

It's a nice novelty having charts on your phone and being able to take them mobile, to get a look at the market anytime you want, being able to manage a trade on the go, but placing a trade on them is an entirely different thing.

Traders get very comfortable with their normal desk, the same charts they look at day in day out for years and years. Looking at a chart on a phone application would distort the traders view of the market IMO and also would induce trades the trader normally wouldn't take resulting to an increase in losses.

I don't see anyone seriously suggesting a phone is a complete solution - it's a mobile solution, a supplement. Many of those traders you mention are wasting time spending so much time in front of the screen. I could argue that staring at a screen may distort a trader's view of the market as much as not looking at a screen at all!
