I' was trading with the strat, and was not bad. Of course it can cause DD, but if you use it with moderate quantities it's working I think.

EA somebody?

This is not martingale. The 2 lots solution is was only a special thing. The main strategy is not martingale. If the market is ranging every strategy is going to die, not only this. But after a big range you win more... With an EA we could see how much is the DD, and the longest opening period.

Alternate method against the DD: Open opposite position only, if the the third candle is closed on the other side.
