You could always try and find out the answer.....thats kinda the idea really. It's not a quiz to show how much more I know than anyone else cos I be in real trouble if it was!

Ok Mtm, thats somewhere near.

There is no 'set way' to use this bar. It's all a matter of personnal choice. As long as the basics are adhered to.

PrymeTyme - The name is wrong. The description is kinda right...ish but how you would use it is somewhere near.

I got the answer right out of Master The Markets.

I did not look it up, I just know it from my reads of the book. So I'm not sure of the page number.

SilverKnight - got the wrong name and the useage is a bit suspect also. I think you are generally in the right area tho.

gaps exist in stocks and indexs and gap do exist in fx .... but you do not see them on your chart as you are showing. FX markets are 24 hours , even on weekends in the pros world. Real gaps happen in that 100 pip candle that happens in under 30 seconds on news , when the bid or the ask price is moves fast.

and even still your theory on the no demand bar being a down bar is wrong. The question posed should have been , when can a bar be a nd bar when it closes on it low ... response when it closes higher than the prior close it can be .

very rarely will a stock gap up and not be hit hard by sellers / profit takers right away.

post some more examples if you could please , very interesting topic.

S&P 500 current M5 chart below.

And while we're at it, a down bar is a down bar. We apply VSA to it and make any changes neccesary(ie ignoring the open price) but it is still a down bar as painted by the software. If we try telling the world that, the bar I marked wasn't a down bar, they are all gonna think we're all away with the fairies!

stock gap and kind of play I used to do when I played stock , trading the 1st 10 min OR break down for a few cents

mostly stock gaps hit by profit taking 1st hr .. then settle down , for options players you can use scanners to scan stocks that gap , wait for the close then testing then get in on an in the money , that month expiry play for 10 to 30%

We had quite a few trying this one. Supprisingly, a lot got it wrong. This is a basic VSA bar and we should all know it.

A. This is a 'No Buying Pressure' bar.
It's best used as another sign of possible weakness in the market, to add to the background weakness which you may see in a build up to a trade. Also, it might help you to decide that the long trade you've been eyeing up isn't quite ready yet. It's a matter of personnal judgement.


It is catagorized as a medium/wide spread up bar closing on the high with low volume. Price has been raised but, without the backing of the SM, it is likely to fall again unless SM change their mind.

It can very often mean a small retrace may be iminent. But, it is NOT reliable enough to trade in this way.


The volume is key here. If volume was average, it would have a completely opposite meaning.

For those who didn't PM an answer, how did you do?

My 2 pips on FX gaps, or lack thereof:

Clearly the fx market can have gaps like any other market. The question is wether or not weekend gaps exist? When I turn on my computer on a Sunday and see a gap, the market responds as if that gap is real (exists). If the gap was simply a function of the lack of data available to the retail trader, gap theory should not hold to the extent that it appears to. That is to say, gaps should not fill simply because retail traders want them to. Professional money must be involved. But professional money surely had access to weekend data. And if they do, then they would see no gaps.

The Smart Money must either consider the weekend data (trades) as irrelevant or non-existent. In each case, the data has the potential to "gap" the market. It may have little to do with the weekend and more to do with the lack of big money players.

For the record you do get the occasional gap, at least i've seen a few with Tradeguider. Fairly uncommon but they can be found.

Also, how many posts do i need before they aren't moderated? My earlier reply to 1pipperhour got lost in the fog whilst waiting to be acknowledged. This probably will to
