demo vs live price movement

im dermo trading a strategy right now and it looks promising, but can i count on it going live? do the prices move the same way as in demo vs live? any help is appreciated. thanks

What ever you do, dont put lot of money live if you are new to trading. Only the amount you are ready to lose. With real money, even with a "small" amount, you will be influenced with "fear and greed". This changes the game alot, thus your trading will will be differend(you are the weakest link).

It takes lot of time to *really* understand the power/destruction of leverage you use. Its taken me years... Anyways, only way you to start on the "learning path" is to open real live account, but start it small

ps. there can be differences on the execution(spreads and slippage), but its effect depends what kinda strategy you are using, otherwise the price is 99% as in the demo. How small time frames and frequency are we talking about?

Hmmmm.... you could see BIG differences on such a small timeframe. How many pips are you going for per trade and which pair(s)?

The fear that you will lose your money (caused by previous consecutive losing trades).

The greed that you can earn more pips (also consecutive, but winning streaks).

It feels totally different from demo. Its like taking a 100 hundred dollar bill and tearing its edges bit by bit until it finally gets torn into half.

OR you'll feel like god when you won. The keyword here is overconfidence.

From a technical point of view, the slippage will be different.

And from the psychological perspective, it will be a whole different feeling.

The problem is that the demo account should be used only for getting used to the platform. Why only that? Because the demo account set you false expectations! You will start to say "that it is a piece of cake to trade... it's not big deal" then when you go live, hmm; you will see.

Later edit: just start small at the begin, because the probability to lose the first account is extremely high, you can't avoid that, trust me. And also try to keep your real leverage under 1:10.

The one or so times I played, poker has a similar feel to it, since, I guess, you exchange the bills on a single risk with all the possible winnings right there in front of you and the risk type keeps happening regularly and easily and everyone tensely faces others during this.
Trading, especially forex, is worse, since you can't see your opponent and broke rs are actually very good salespeople.

The G-d thing is true and has a flip to it, when someone over you or a losing trade reminds you sharply of your insignificance in the greater scheme of things after you gave it your best and you feel as if you got your stomach punched in and may generalize into your other activities/trades.



NOTE: To threadstarter, got off track. To me, demo is tough to call a trade, and thus gives skill pressure, without the money pressure; one could substitute the extra pressure missing through changing the speed with simulator, for instance.

I'll suggest that when you go live initially, risk something really small....like 0.1% per trade. It's still real money, but will have less emotion attached to it than if you go big out of the gate. Then you can practice your trade setups and gradually (very gradually), increase your lot size. I think the challenge for new traders is to learn to trade without emotion. That is the hardest part of this game for me.
