DislikedComputing power is cheaper than manpower. And it does scale much better.
And OOP (which is the topic of this thread, btw.) on its own does not slow down computing in any way. OOP just provides language constructs that lets one express certain problems and their solutions in a different (and sometimes much simpler, much more elegant) way. It has nothing to do with the efficiency of the generated code. Its just a different way to write things down on a higher level of abstraction....Ignored
No, my jibe came along as the visualization I have of general software programmers these days... Continually assuming that everybody is going to be on the same generation of hardware as they are so fanatically upgrading too all the time.
I have no problem with the use of higher level languages to cut down development work. I do have a problem though with high frequency routines not being optimized with any effort at all. (The quest for optimization and efficiency is a strong part of my make up in many endeavors.
