Which E-mail Providers Can be Used for MT4 E-mail Alerts?

Is anyone using MT4 email alerts?

I've tried to set it up with googlemail but it's not possible because they use some SMARTL system.

I am asking because ultimately I'd like to get alerts sent to my mobile via e-mail.

I havent got much of a clue about POP, SMTP etc. but I cant find the info that it's being asked for in MT4 >Tools> Options> email tab

If you are succesfully using email alerts and know any e-mail providers who are compatible with MT4's system please let us know here.

The problem is not with gmail from what I understand. There is a dll file you can download that will allow the messages to be sent out. Then through you gmail you can have it forwarded to your phone.

I'll try and find a link to that and post it here.

I'll try check the gmail setting out that have been mentoined in this thread, but it looks as if I have to wait till Monday until my broker's servers are up again because right now it doesnt work.

OK, I've figued it out now.

This is the way it works:

First you need an e-mail provider that has an SMTP server, if you google "free SMTP server" you should get plenty of results.

You have to serach for the SMTP server name of your e-mail provider of choice in my case it's "mail.gmx.net" from gmx.net

The SMTP server has the ability to receive the MT4 e-mail alert and send it then to your e-mail, again it has to be an e-mail account correspondent to the SMTP server in my case a gmx e-mail account.

SMTP login: your full e-mail address (in my case a gmx one)

SMTP password: you e-mail account password

Then put exactly the following info in:


From: your name, your e-mail address

To: your name, your e-mail address

Just as it says in red in the MT4 fill out box btw.


It's pretty simple once you figured it out the important thing is to find an e-mail provider that has a SMTP server and to find out the name of that server, there are plenty of them out there and that you have an e-mail account with this provider.

I set up gmx for getting emails from MT4...i get this error every time

2009.09.25 03:13:45 Mail: 550 5.7.0 Sender address does not belong to logged in user {mp-us001}


any ideas? I have everything setup just as is stated in this thread..

I get the same the error with my GMX account. I believe that GMX has enabled SSL with their SMTP server now which means that most of the information in this thread is out of date. I got around the problem by using the SMTP server of my ISP. There is a much better discussion of this subject on the MetaTrader forum.

The following free email services now have SSL and will not work with SendMail:
Yahoo
gmail
GMX
Hotmail
With a little bit of help, I was able to get my free GMX mail account to work. The SMTP server has to be mail.gmx.com:587. So my previous post of Nov 10 is wrong in regards to GMX.
Thanks for the info. Do you know if GMX offers forwarding to SMS or do I need an additional service like smscountry.com/Email2SMS.asp
I've had this error tonight : Mail: 550 5.7.0 Sender address does not belong to logged in user {mp-us005}


And I was able to fix it by, shutting down mt4 and rebooting Mt4.

Considering this error and the reboot, and I am starting to wonder about the consistency of using Mt4 to send emails. Maybe there is a better way around this...

I'll see what I can find and report back if I find a better solution.

I am using a Trade_sender_ecn_v4 for collecting the needed info. SO far its working great besides the Erro mentioned above and several errors on twittercounter email sender.

Looking for another twitteremail service.. if you know of any, drop a Link. Thanks

Last year i use the same setting and it worked, but now it doesn't works anymore when i checked my email from browser the email is still active, so i wonder why it said "Incorrect username or password"
I tried to delete email.ini in config folder and resetting the email setting but still no luck T_T

SMTP server: mail.gmx.com:587

also, be sure "Enable" is checked

That's odd, i also use the same setting, except that the "To" is using a gmail email, but i don't think it's a problem.
I've been using GMX manytimes w/o problem last year, i even keep the email setting in my MT4 for the whole year, but it no longer works when i try the "Test" again recently.

And then i findout about gawab.com email a few days ago, gawab seems to be working in MT4 w/o any problem on my test, but gmx still doesn't works anymore for me, i wonder why it still works in your test

Anyway, since Gawab is still working, i think i'll use that for now, but probably they will also use SSL in the future like most email provider.
I heard MT5 can use SMTP with SSL, but i haven't test it, i wish MetaQuotes make MT4 support SSL also

hi adam,

i suggest trying setup gmx account in outlook express and see if you can send email using their smtp. this way you can isolate the problems. i can send email using gmx smtp (port 25/587) with no problems.

my bad ... you're correct, you should have the gmail address there ... sometimes my fingers type faster than my brain processes ... (fast fingers, or slow brain ... not sure which is the problem)

I've been there last year when the 1st time i knew about GMX
And also where i findout that gawab still works recently
Heres a funny one for you guys. If i try to send out emails from MT4 that my broker provides, I get errors and it wont let it go through.

If I send emails out through a Demo account with another broker, no issue. I get the emails on my blackberry every time.

Try and figgure that one out.

Hmm.. that is odd, i don't think sending email has anything to do with broker, because the email sent directly from client side to smtp server, unless if your broker doesn't provide a newer update.

Anyway, after updating my MT4 to build 228, now i can even send email using yahoo smtp nice update
But there is build 229 now, not sure what the difference
The email provider www.gmx.com is free and work perfect.

smtp: mail.gmx.com
smtp login: [email protected]
smtp password: ******(your password)
from: [email protected] (maybe anything)
to: [email protected] (your cell phone number or email)

Check with your cell phone provider how to receive email (SMS) in your phone from your regular phone number.In my case ([email protected])

VERY, VERY, IMPORTANT
after configuration, save and RESTART MT4
You can make lots of test without results if you do not restart MT4 plaform...

And then make a test call from your MT4 platform.
