Well, I'm back from San Diego and can see I haven't missed much at all.

Part of being a successful trader involves taking in all information, weighing it against your trade plan, and seeing if you perhaps need to modify your plan. Many of us I'm sure follow many sites such as forexlive.com. While there are lots of web sources for information, I wouldn't classify too many of them as insightful or useful.

As the tumbleweeds drift around in this incredibly dead Asia session, I was following up on some bookmarks, and came across some insight from this Oanda resource. There's an OK mix of analysis and insightful explanation on what the big boys might be thinking, or what spurred certain events. Not sure if the data there overlaps with this slightly more impressive presentation, but thought I would post the 2 links for newer traders, and just include a couple of items/perspectives I'd not come across elsewhere.

USD/JPY under selling from Japanese corporates, exporters, ahead of Half Year FY10/11 closing on Thursday. USD/JPY dipping to day lows of 84.18, eye post intervention low of 84.11 seen yest. Talks of BoJ bids 84.00-10. EUR/JPY lower at 113.15-17, vs NY close of 113.42 on back of lower Cross/JPY. Nikkei -0.79%, eye any risk aversion, with some focus on Takefuji, for any JPY repatriation. More next. USD/JPY offers 84.50/85.00. Cross/JPY seen under selling pressure after recent gains. EUR/JPY off its 6-week highs of 113.75-78, stops below 113.00, while USD/JPY eye any BoJ intervention soon. WL

* 28 Sep 10: 01:20 GMT (SGA) - FX NOW! USD/JPY, USD/CHF Flows - JPY Fix 84.35; PBoC CNY Fix 6.7051, eye reval highs again

USD/JPY fixing set at 84.35, with USD/JPY dipping after the fixing. Hearing good month end, quarter end and Fiscal Year 10/11 Half Year end related selling interest from Japanese corporates/ exporters capping topside at 84.50/85.00. The anticipated strong Japanese real money selling - could be 1 factor that spurred the BoJ/MoF intervention on September 15 at 15-year lows of 82.87. This could be due to fear that without intervention, USD/JPY could break the psychological 80.00 handle and head to all time lows of 79.75. Still hearing talks and speculation of "covert" BoJ intervention around 84.00-10., Meanwhile PBoC fixes USD/CNY higher at 6.7051, from 6.6923 close, with focus on yesterday's post reval lows of 6.6859 - as China, while fixing USD/CNY up - has allowed for CNY rise.WL

* 28 Sep 10: 00:30 GMT (SGA) - FX NOW! USD/JPY, AUD/JPY Flows - FY10/11 half year close; More China property tightening

Thinner month end trading conditions, ahead of Japan's Half Year FY10/11 closing on September 30. Could see last minute Japanese corporates, exporters, mega-city banks, trust banks selling for book closing and JPY repatriation. Some focus on more China property tightening measures, could weigh on risk appetite and China reports. China will announce new round of property tightening steps soon, aiming at second and third home loans - China Business News. - BBG. On FX, USD/JPY at 84.25-30, talks of BoJ interest at 84 lows, as USD/JPY finding support at post BoJ intervention lows of 84.11-12. Offers 84.40-50/85.00. AUD/JPY at 80.85-90, could come under selling pressure by Japanese investors - Mrs Watanabes - though more toushin issue today - more next. AUD/JPY bids 80.00.WL28 Sept 2010AUD/JPY

GBP is working hard and keeping pace with the EUR's mini-rally. EUR/GBP is actually down a very modest amount, with GBP/USD also advancing more on the day than EUR/USD, but not by much. GBP and the crosses continue to suffer from a lack of the "normal" speculative interest that can drive the currency hard in both directions. The lack of depth in the markets is a direct effect of the lack of breadth in interested parties. Between now and month end, there is little likelihood of much additional interest appearing. Orders will drive markets with minimal distractions from a very thin data and events calendar. M.B.

* 27 Sep 10: 08:11 GMT (LDN) - FX NOW! USD/JPY, EUR/JPY Flows - verbals not cutting it

The verbal intervention is not working as USD/JPY continues to edge lower, well below the level that saw a not too convincing scare on Friday. There's still over a big figure to go to reach the levels where we did get intervention on the 15th September, but we suspect that stops are being lowered not too far behind by those brave enough to look for lower yet. Can't help but expect BoJ to show up in the coming days, as the USD trend continues. UJ has given back 200 pips of the 300 pip move they drove, and currently diving; 83.8 was where there were almost hourly releases from BoJ that they were 'checking rates.' Month end should be a time that they'd want to change the charts.

Had GY and GU longs; keeping GY indefinitely pending intervention, but on whole my GU longs are B/E - will likely dump them on the next leg up as Posen has thrown a major monkey wrench into sterling sentiment - not sure how big boys would react, but I'd expect more lows.

Just when you think you've had enough surprises for one day, Andrew Sentance comes out to try to undo what mouthy Posen had issued. It's clearly a dysfunctional board over there, about as confused as most forex traders. Got some longs off that 1.572 fib bottom, but am out for today; hard to say if the market has sorted itself out - me thinks upwards has resumed by way of BoE handslapping and, the USDX selloff. Based on futures, that first high volume bar contains lots of sellers, but the next one was down too, and there don't appear to be enough buyers to have absorbed the selling volume, but quantity wise the up bar that follows is the largest in many days. Also got UK PMI end of week. I'd think we will be revisiting 80+ pips down once again. Let's see.

Interesting to see that EURUSD is climbing upwards, probably to test 1.36/37 on the back of the US$ selloff, but in the shadow of more significant european noise. Note sterling is getting no participation in this melt-up. Mid-term would not surprise me to see a temporary return of US strength at the expense of a EU, GU selloff - just speculation at this point.
