Pip, when you have a time, please give some info on

Hi Sky,

The SMA settings were inspired by Calstock's comments about avoiding taking trades when the SMAs do not have enough slope or are bordering on flat.

To determine if the SMAs are in an uptrend the EA checks for

SMA[1] > SMA[smaShift]

so smaShift simply tells it how far back to do the comparision (by default 2)

By default the actual pip difference between the 2 SMA values does not matter as long as one is greater than the other. Calstock suggested that there should be at least 10-15pips difference to indicate a strong enough trend for a higher probability outcome. Therefore you can set slow_smaMinHourlyDiff and fast_smaMinHourlyDiff to say 10 pips to satisfy this requirement.

Finally I threw in checkSMAorder which, if true, requires the fast SMA to be above the slow SMA for longs and vice versa for shorts.

Piptician, just did some back testing, it seems you can't just short or long the market with v18. it must be balanced, otherwise it will not trade. thanks for all your work.

This is a trend following EA so theres no requirement for a long/short option....

if this is the advanced thread, then all options should be available in case I want to just short at a certain hour.

The idea behind this " Advanced thread" is to explore the ideas behind reducing the drawdown...
If you read the original thread you will see that the method this system is based on is determind by two MA's 10 and 197 therefore both have to running in the same direction for the EA to enter, therefore the ability to trade contertrend is not a requirement of this EA.

I found a way to only short v17a with small profit but consistent since 2003. I was hoping to apply the same parameters to v18 and get better results by limit positioning. Piptician posted that all suggestions are welcome here if we can make a case. well, that's my reason to only short.

6% DD with about a 40% profit 100% wins
Pretty happy with these settings

If you increase the riskpercent 1 2 3 better return with slight increase in DD
All done on Alpari checking FXDD next

I think instead of Expiration time set for Limited Orders, those

orders simply can be closed at certain time, to avoid those errors.

Hi hyper-fx,

If you only want to enter short trades then there is a generic option for any EA (not just Tokyo) for specifying this.

If you have the Strategy Tester open then press the Expert Properties button and select the Testing tab. From there make sure the Positions option is set to Short only (it defaults to Long & Short).

If you have the EA attached to a chart then double click on the smiley face on the chart to bring up the EA options dialog. Select the Common tab and from there you can set Positions to Short only.

To turn off the trailing stops you just need to set TrailingStop1, TrailingStop2 and TrailingStop3 to 0.

I just checked the code and I see what the problem is with setting it to 0. I will fix that. In the meantime, try setting the values to 10000 and let me know if that works.

That's exactly what I did, but when you run the backtest with your parameters or any parameters, short only, it pretty much dies after a couple of trades, please check it out.
