This is aimed at F451 or Polo or anyone else who can make indicators for MT4.

I graciously ask for your help in making an indicator. Well, actually, I know nothing about making indicators so it would surely mean you making one entirely!

The idea is very simple (tho I'm sure that creating it wont be!). I would like to be able to click on a candle/bar and have a small(maybe 1/8 of the screen size) window appear showing how that candle/bar is made up on a smaller time frame.

eg if I click on a bar in the M15 chart, a small window opens showing a picture of the 3 M5 bars with volume which make up the M15 bar.
If I click on the bar again, the window dissappears.

Thats it.

The window would physicaly look something like the window which appears with the candle info in it if you 'mouse over' a candle.

It would be nice if the user could define the size of the box and which smaller tf is shown.

I would really appreciate your help on this.

Hello Intel,

As far as I know, MT4 hasn't provided the API (Application Programming Interface) for mouse events. That means when you click the mouse button, something happens according to your programs.

Anyway, your idea is very brilliant. I think there is already a solution to show different timeframe charts in sub windows. Wh1zz0 once posted a chart showing that feature. I don't know what indicator it was.

Maybe someone else could offer his/her helps.

Hi guys,

I'd like to share my two new toys. wnrb means wide/narrow range bar, and hlvb means high/low volume bar.

The logic behind them are as follows:
Compare the current bar's volume/range with those of the lastest 7 bars. Seven scales are used to describe the comparison results.
1. hvb7/wrb7 - higher/wider than the latest 7 bars
2. hvb4/wrb4 - higher/wider than the latest 4 bars
3. hvb/wrb - higher/wider than at least 4 (or 5) bars among the latest 7 bars
4. neutral - neutral bar
5. lvb/nrb - less/narrower than at least 4 (or 5) bars among the latest 7 bars
6. lvb4/nrb4 - less/narrower that the latest 4 bars
7. lvb7/nrb7 - less/narrower than the latest 7 bars
In addition, a moving average line of volume/range is drawn.


ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED.

This might be temporary solution for you: In input set 15 and your current TF is 5...It would be inverted what you want.

My original intention was to post this chart with the previous chart. This chart shows a variation on the theme and is inspired by Mal's post showing different timeframes. This is a 10 minute GBP chart.

There are a few important differences here, but again the overall theme and pattern remains the same.

On to the chart.

A. A narrow range down candle closing in the middle of its range on volume less than the previous two candles. This is a test. This test as opposed to the previous chart's test, comes on volume less than the previous two and volume less than average. Many will like this test better-and recognize it easier.

Again note that we are around the DBPL. BUT note also that the test closes below the DBPL. Therefore we really don't want to take this test.

The next candle increases in volume and range (which is the opposite of what happens on the other chart) and close higher. The higher close confirms the test as successful. The RESULT of a successful test should be higher prices.

B. A narrow range down candle on increasing volume. Whilst the close is down, it does make a higher high and not a lower low. Making a higher high but closing near its low on increasing volume are signs that supply is swamping demand. Especially if the range is narrow.

This is a Squat.

C. No Demand. It is pretty clear by this point that the BBs are not truly interested in higher prices. Price moves in the path of least resistance. If up was the path of least resistance, then the up candles would be on increasing, but not excessive, volume.

We are on the wrong side of the DBPL to take a trade at this point. If we are out, we certainly don't want to be thinking of getting long after this candle. If we are long, we do have a contingency plan......

D. Yatzee. A dark (Open>Close) WRB that in this case not only closes lower than the low of the test candle, but also engulfs it. Again, not entirely VSA as we are using candles, but this is akin to a wide spread down bar closing lower on increased volume. Using candles does add another dimension though.

Notice that the dark WRB does come within the window of 2-5 intervals after the test. Also note that the WRB closes below the DBPL. If we are below the DBPL, we are certainly not in an uptrend per our definition of uptrend. Moreover, we can see that the market is making lower highs. The high of the squat candle is lower than the high to the left. A market by definition is in a downtrend if it is making lower highs and lower lows. The lower lows are on the way.

Because this candle signals no results from a test and is engulfing the test candle, it is a legitimate candle to get short on. It is a down candle which makes it an exception to the rule but it remains a viable option nevertheless. On the other hand, if you only wanted to get short on an up candle........

E. Up Squat. Check out the volume on this candle. Very high volume on a candle with a range less than the last three candles. Making this a NR4 candle. Whilst the close is in the upper portion of the range, the narrow range on that amount of volume is a clear sign of weakness. Low volume up candles are nice and easy, but we do need to expand the arrows in our quiver.

This is a slight variation of the previous post but the underlying theme remains the same: Effort vs. Result.

Hello everyone,

I attached two indicators showing different timeframes in a sub-window or on the main chart respectively. Unfortunately they show only the "recent" past. An indicator according to Intel's idea would of course be a lot more useful for analyzing price action farther back in time.

anyone noticed this ?

seems to be base developing in gu ... 1.5600 support

there is a major support line 1.5550 gu on daily ... may get a little bounce here

I think it comes after a major drop in US equities last wed. The fact that we didn't get a bounce already is bearish. However there probably will be either a strong bounce or a big fall from not being able to make a new high on the daily. This might further confirm a downtrend for the coming week(s).

Does volume support the shift away from 1.6 Mal?

I think this week we should see where we stand... although large players are pushing for higher USD based on COT

daily futures pretty bearish with all up moves being hit and daily closing on lows.

I am not a big believer in waves ... but we have had an initial down move , like to see a move up with a no demand to about 1.5800 , that would confirm a move down thru 1.5500 into 1.5

Hey Malcolm,

you said that the Hulls Moving Avg was similar to tradeguiders diamonds.

do you know what number setting on the HMA would be closest to what gavin has on his diamond trending system?

set it to 21...

I use tg trend diamonds to 10

21 hulls and tg td 10 are almost same

If you need to access Windows Mouse events within MT4 you can use the "WinUser32.mqh" Include file, but I personally haven't had a need to get that deep in MT4 development yet for the stuff I created.

I am a computer consultant for over 25 years and I have developed many EAs and Indicators for fun and for learning how to trade. I personally like trading manually better and with much better results.

Well, sorry for any confusion, but basically I meant your request for an indicator to pop up lower TF bar detail is doable under MT4 with what they currently have to offer. If I can't find it then may be when I get time I'll write it for fun.
